Realistically, what is the best Field Of View setting in FC3? I've tried them in increments of Default, 80, 90, 100, 110.
I have a 16:9 24-inch running at 1920 x 1080.
At the highest setting there seems to be a fish-eye effect and the default setting the view appears too narrow.
Here is a thread about it:

I am using the default just fine and never realised there is such setting at all
Technically, it is a physical determination you have to make.
Basically, the FOV should match the active horizontal area of your display at the distance at which you view it.
You can do this on paper with the aid of a protractor.
First, using a ruler or measuring tape, determine the width of your active display area in the horizontal. Make 2 hash marks representing this width on a llarge sheet of newsprint or whatever you have laying around of sufficient size. Using a straightedge, connect these two hash marks, and place a 3rd hashmark at the center of these two on axis with the line you just drew. Let's call this "Center".
Next, measure from the bridge of your nose to the center of the screen at the "average" distance you expect to be from the monitor, and drawn another line at a right angle from the "Center", to the "Nose" to center distance you measured.
To complete the diagram, draw a line from the left edge hash mark to the "Nose" , and another line from the right edge hash mark to the "Nose".
Now simply place the protractor center on the "Nose", orient the protractor so the 0 degree mark is on the left edge line, and read the FOV directly from where the right edge line intersects the protractor.
That's the science, but you can do without the measurements by simple estimation. I can tell you if you set it precisely, it WILL look better, so if you have a protractor laying around it really helps to eliminate guesswork.
The short story is, there is no "best" setting unless is matches YOUR particular setup.

Oh I forgot, this problem that I made a video about gets worse the higher the FOV is set.. So that is something to consider if pop-up objects annoy you as much as they annoy me.

Never noticed that. Having been around video games for over 25 years basically that is the way graphics work. In some games I have played you can see things poping up all over the place as you get closer to them. You want to take a look at flight simulators. You can be flying over a city and cannot see much of anything when suddenly there is a stutter and suddenly all these buildings appear.

I know how video game engines work, and I know what regular "pop-in" is.Originally Posted by flybyme Go to original post
What I described in the video above is a bug exacerbated by higher FOV setting and only with "ULTRA" geometry setting, but it does not happen with "very high" geometry settings and lower where more "regular" pop-in happens, but not that particular type of pop-in which happens to be a bug.
I even contacted support, and showed them my video, and they said it was a bug and that they'd look into it. Of course the bug will never be fixed in FC3, but I am hoping if this engine or a derivative of this engine is used in FC4, maybe they will fix it then.
I only noticed that the problem gets incrementally worse the higher you set FOV after I contacted support and made the vid though.
Most people probably don't even notice it, I did because I spent a lot of money on a fast PC to get absolutely top GFX image quality, and then noticed crap like this that only happens when you set the game to max gfx settings.![]()
That's why I never buy top end GPUsOriginally Posted by BWX232 Go to original post
Because of a random bug in FC3? That makes no sense.Originally Posted by Butcherbird59 Go to original post
