Another article with hopes for FC4.
I agree with some of what he writes, particularly the part about how Vaas and Hoyt were too easily killed off. Cinematically Vaas and Hoyt are great, but the QTE boss fights between them and Jason are not really engaging. Especially compared to the boss fights in previous installments between Jack and Crowe.
Also here are a couple of other Far Cry 4 wishlists.
Honestly, between the two-I no longer know which one is worse. With every Ubi's game I buy, Ubi gets one step closer to beating EA at being the worst company. I mean-sure, EA is no angel and is well known for doing countless crap-moves, including unpolished releases, unfit for release, but at least EA has customer support that actually helps!!!Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
Just honk about it-EA, the worst company in USA, has better customer support than Ubi. On top of that, EA realizes the importance of keepin their milking cows alive for as long as possible. They may not be making a good job at it, but unlike Ubi, they are at least trying! Mass Effect 3 multiplayer is still alive, for example and they are trying to do something about BF4, unlike Ubj, that somehow manages screws up literally, every multiplayer they come up with!
WOW! Great thread!
Lots of brilliant ideas.
Just wanted to add some of mine. Might have included some of them already...
This is my list:
I think Tibet would be an amazing locale for Far Cry 4...
No treasure or loot maps/markers
No cheap weapon unlocks
Have a combo system like Borderlands so you get more XP if you chain kills and/or use ground and air take-down techniques
Far better AI is a must/much more variety in terms of enemy models + dialogue
Fully upgradeable weapons
Ability to craft 'tribal' weapons using materials you find.
Ability to set traps
Much more wildlife/ability to fish/realistic day and night cycle/better weather effects [rain, snow, sleet, hail, wind, thunder etc.]
Ability to reenforce vehicles/improve performance slightly to give you the edge
Ability to climb trees and use items such as grappling guns to traverse treetops and pass gaps
Base jumping from the tip of mountains
Ability to climb mountains/rock climbing
Make money hard to come by so you have to earn it
Stamina meter [every 8 hours in-game time you become weary so you need to prevent exhaustion by hunting for food. If you let your stamina meter drop completely then YOU'RE hunted. However, in this scenario you can get a huge amount of XP if you kill whatever beast is generated nearby to hunt you [e.g. a snow leopard] so you can purposely bring this upon yourself if you've got the right skill-set/equipment!]
Camouflage system ala Metal Gear Solid
Super hard Thief-esque sidequests where you steal and sell off top secret artifacts to a 'mysterious man.
Much more in-game interactivity to make the world feel 'alive'
Skiing/snowboarding down mountains with the ability to use guns while doing so. Also skiing over mountain edges and opening parachutes at will.?
- Bring back the beta map testing for FC4, but make it a unique game mode with its own spawn points. Beta testing should have options to greatly increase both time and score limits, since players are in fact "testing" their maps. Have one player map editing as the others test his/her map. Include a vote in beta testing to change whoever is map editing at a given time. It could do wonders for clan maps and escape maps. Found btw a couple of old related threads.
- Include a system that rewards players for playing game modes that do not get played to often; maybe an xp bonus or something.
- A basic requirement for most multiplayer game modes that all spawn points have access to each other some way; either on foot or through vehicles. Keep the navigational mesh in FC4, so we can troubleshoot this.
- In the map editor include video tutorials explaining the map editor tools and the game modes and their requirements. Include an achievement/trophy for having gone through every tutorial.
- The video below suggest a tower defense system to enhance the outposts.
It reminded me of an old suggestion I posted earlier for Far Cry 4:Found a similar idea in the comment section of this article, which suggest:Let the pirates build new outposts and have them launch assaults reclaiming old outposts. Furthermore let the main protagonist like the pirates have the option at some point to build new outposts, but let them both upgrade the buildings and fortification in the outposts...Would love to see an MP mode centered around defending/conquering, not to mention building/destroying various outposts. Let each team accumulate wealth and building materials to buy trailers to build new outposts.Allow garrisons to be taken back by enemies + allow your forces to be upgraded...If outposts acted more like bases where your forces stayed, resupplying there could become a more meaningful endeavor if your guns were at risk of jamming after a number of battles.
- Maybe slightly unrelated, but prior to the release of Far Cry 4 get the dev team to do an IAMA on Reddit.
- In multiplayer give the host options to toggle on/off rocket jumping, sliding, going prone, speedboosting, and killstreaks. Include host options to limit how many times each team can respawn in a given match(e.g. 0, 50, 100, 500, 1000, unlimited).
- A map editor tool that either rotates the sun and moon or the angle, which the map is positioned to them. On that note would like to see a "mirror tool" to flip individual objects.
- An autosave function (with some customization) for the map editor.
- FC2 and FC3s single player campaign had doors that you could interact with, while in both map editors the doors were static. For FC4 bring interactable doors that can be both opened and closed into the MP and map editor, and expand a little e.g. a pair of window shutters the players can kick open or curtains they can shove to side to get a better view. Better yet include lots of everyday items that players can interact with e.g. switches to turn off/on lights and elevators and different types of vines. Some which are used to climb higher places and others which are used more like a whip to disarm an enemy/player or to swing across a gorge. Another couple of examples: tables and beds that players can crouch/crawl under; lockers and lavatories they can temporary hide in as the other team walks by.
- Would be interesting if when a match ends in multiplayer air transport came in. The air transport airlifts both teams to the starting positions (this occurs as the next map is being downloaded and day and night cycle change) of the next match. On route the players pull up their walkie talkies to add/remove maps from the map list, change game mode, change score and time limits, change the limit to number of players, weapon & character customization, respawn limits, etc.
- Incorporate the yetis and other animals into multiplayer.
- Include a multiplayer demo with one or two maps from the full version of Far Cry 4. Better yet host a monthly competition (maybe something similar to the "vote for gold" from Far Cry 3) where some of the best custom maps in Far Cry 4 gets added to the demo over time.
- Cross platform matches for MP e.g pc vs. xbox one, pc vs. ps4, xbox one vs ps4, etc. Also for balance in a cross platform match give the host options to limit whether everybody in the given match can only use "keyboard and mouse" or gamepads or both.
- Do something more with custom singleplayer and COOP maps. Make a game mode with some basic requirements(spawnpoint(s), mission objective(s. An option for players to include a single goal or a set of tasks to complete(primary, seconday, etc...), and endpoint(s)). Let players string multiple maps together. Maybe even put a option that if players string together over 3 or 4 maps they can take a screen shot of one of the maps; and add some flavor text to it. This gets displayed when a given player progresses from map 4 to 5. Players should be able to upload/download both individual custom maps and custom campaign packets (which consist of 10 to 20 maps).
There is only one thing I truly want, one thing that may determine whether I buy or rent the game:
The option to replay story missions!
I absolutely loved FC3, one of my favorite games of the past few years, BUT the replayability was destroyed for me due to the inability to replay story missions. I love replaying my favorite bits of the story, but open world games (including FC3) usually start off with such a slow grind (which is fine!) that I generally prefer to just revisit my favorite missions again rather than replay the whole game. I haven't felt compelled to beat FC3 more than once, and I haven't even played the game for at least 6 months. On the flip side if I could replay story missions I would probably still play sporadically to this day. I really do love replaying my favorite parts.
Please Ubi, give us the option to replay story missions.
I guess I'll add one more thing too:
- More open-world oriented MP. Make it unique, and really special to Far Cry. Maybe take inspiration from a fellow Ubi game: Watch Dogs. I really like the approach WD is taking for multiplayer. It's innovative and makes sense for the game world. Ubi has been striking gold with their multiplayer recently with AC and WD. Giving the players something new instead of just the same old boring stuff. FC3, comparatively, was quite lackluster in the multiplayer department. It wasn't bad, per se, but it wasn't very intriguing. It felt very disconnected from the SP. I hope FC4's multiplayer is more true to the core of the single player.
I'm going to keep this short. Far Cry 3 was a good game but had much design compromise to be accessible to a wide audience. This is unfortunate because little to no compromise is necessary if you simply add an optional 'hardcore mode', or something along those lines.
Features of hardcore mode:
-Tagging enemies and animals requires film roll (ammo), which shopkeepers sell in limited supply. You are also not able to tag them by aiming at them with iron sights.
-Halved XP for all actions & not all perks/skills can be unlocked in one playthrough.
-All shop prices are doubled.
-weapon jamming
-Map/compass only shows vital information (i.e objectives, safe houses etc. Not loot location)
-Radio towers do not unlock free weapons.
-Sprinting is limited, though sprint duration is generous/can be upgraded.
-A large number of features from the OP's list such as side effects from taking drugs.
Most people claim FC3 lacked replayability. Hardcore mode will help with that problem significantly.
General wishes for FC4:
-More variety/depth to weapon modification.
-More perks/Skills/Tattoos
-More emphasis on puzzles, platforming and exploration.
-No QTEs
-Further improvements to gunplay (the gunplay was excellent in FC3, but can always be better).
-All the temples were a wasted opportunity for interesting gameplay, they offered simplistic challenge and lacked variety. Please don't be shy with world design in FC4,
-No Dubstep. A Creative, classy, varied and memorable soundtrack please. I remember FC3's soundtrack but for all the wrong reasons.
-Manual throwing knifes. Not the auto aim takedown one, but dedicated equipment like grenades that you can aim and throw.
-slightly less capacity for explosives. In FC3 you were walking artillery.
-plenty of stuff from OP's list such as prone position.
