    The Crew- Sound discussion

I'm an avid fan of glorious sound in games and in particular, racing games!

I absolutely love what the NFS franchise has delivered in terms of great sound design and amazing car sounds in general. Sure, they may be a little over the top but for the type of experience they are excellent. Codemasters have some great sounding games and so does Turn 10's Forza Motorsport series.
Another game I was pleasantly surprised with was Ubisoft's Driver San Fran. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting the sounds that were delivered but yes, a great attempt indeed.

Now, as a sound guy, I truly hope that the vehicles sound at least authentic. I'm looking for good exhaust notes, turbo spools and BOV's, engine ambiance, transmission whine and shifting effects, backfires, pops and crackles.
In the past, racing games audio wasn't a real focus of developers (Hello Gran Turismo?) but I'm seeing a trend lately where devs are indeed trying to focus on this. Upcoming racers and PC sims are showing the way..

Anyway, I've watched some The Crew videos and even though it isn't direct feed, I've got hope that we are indeed going to have some great audio in the game. It's early days yes, but in one video, I can hear some great shifting effects and exhaust notes. I hope this carries over to all cars and the final game.

I'm sure there are other sound fans out there and I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

If you guys have found any videos that showcase the sounds of The Crew in good quality, please post them up.

Thanks and can't wait for the game..

In Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2012) the developers managed to record pretty much the nicest car sounds of all modern racing games. A Viper sounds exactly like it should (biiig V10 --> dark V10 sound) and V8s and V12s sound completely unique and thrilling.
So PLEASE, DEVS, look at NFS Most Wanted (2012) and take a page from that book in the aspect of car sounds.

Couldn't agree more, it really adds to a game when the sound being echoed from your speakers or sound setup is authentic to the point of making your ears bleed.

Definitely - this is probably the one area that NFS has excelled in recently.
