I bought this game to do maps. Period. I have thus been ripped off right royally. I spent fifty hours making what objective gamers and friends have called a map as good if not better than most MP maps in the game (which themselves have bad object collision, poor spawn placement et cetera, yet they do not suffer being tagged as such like we all do)...Originally Posted by GRAW2ROBZ Go to original post
So I took all that hard work (including dragging down and redoing / touching up the map no less than 12x... until it was more or less perfect.... had no getting stuck, or ANY issues.... it had a functioning marijuana grow room with fans et cetera, hidden rooms..... a walk over the map above between towers.... and all whilst set in a dystopian drug-addled future where the polar ice caps had melted and everyone fought over drugs and profits....
Yet, as soon as I posted on here that I wanted people to go and LIKE the map and avoid any negative made-up tags to criticise it or else this would degrade the map and we would not get to play it all the time and have it high up on the silver map playlist..... guess what happened. It went from 11 LIKES from 7 plays.... to 11 likes from 30 plays and people ticking (in groups, i.e. teams of three would party up, go into my map, and troll it by skipping map and then entering in a critiism for EVERY tag (too dark and too bright, too small and too big)... I had no bad feedback... then it went to 45 counts of negative feedback in three minutes... I observed it. This is categorical fact. In five minutes it went from silver (both of my maps, as one is a storm version of the other, so the community could play it twice as often as better than the other MP and 99% of created maps, many of which are broken but forced upon us when playing silver playlist.
My maps were "DRUG WAR: POLAR MELT" and "The Eternal Storm"..... both were trolled and in almost identical numbers.... why? Cos I put up the maps here on this webpage and asked people to vote on it honestly (as is objectively a wonderful map), but they didn't. I run a gaming web-page and it has thousands of subscribers and visitors... I will be alerting members and passers-through to the broken nature of the troll-ruined voting system.... after all, look how BAD the gold maps are when you play them. They are not the good maps, they are the EARLY ones.... and now trolls ensure nothing else can EVER usurp them or the ones atop the silver playlist.
The game is broke.... the MP maps are underwhelming and become stale.... the user maps cannot ever prosper even if they are brilliant and tested and designed over LONGER THAN A WORKING WEEK (!!!!)..... so it a gargantuan waste of time. One I will ensure no reader of my site nor fellow gamer ever has to endure again on my watch. To think that I bought the game PURELY to design maps and cannot is a fu**ing disgrace. Game is broke.
Trolls will bes happy though, overjoyed even. You basically invented a forum for them where they can, in less than a minute, mass ruin and troll a map that took the designer 50 hours plus to make and perfect. That is pa-thetic! Worse is that my two maps were third and fourth on the high score table when I asked more to play them and posted about them here on this website... in two hours, they were then trolled off the face off the earth and do not appear in the top 1000 maps, I cannot find them at all. They are worse apparently in 'rating' order, even though they have 30 plays and 15 LIKES and only 3 trolls had criticised (albeit they put all 15 critiques and three times over), the maps had vanished and apparently are inferior to maps with 28 plays and two likes...... in other words, the most broken, victimizing, troll-revalent, broken down and customer-disrespecting system and set-up I have ever encountered in my reviewing and / or gaming capacity.
Hang your *edit* heads Ubisoft.... you wasted a hundred bucks of my money during a recession and you have ruined a great game by producing an endlessly ruinable and cheesable game where trolls criticise everyone's maps but theirs by using the private match / skip game / troll every criticism available and ruin map technique.... it is truly a write off. Hang your *edit* heads.![]()
I totally agree chunster I believe this has happened to me on every map I have made so far, also most of my friends seem to be suffering with this issue.1 thing I do no is that it won't happen on my new map because the .ucking thing freezes the ps3 in multi player (through no fault of my own) this ill thought through barley tested game is beyond repair,a BIG thanks to ub lie for destroying what we had
I have no idea if this is just a "feeling" or if there is real trolling / downgrading maps going.. but yeah, I have to admit, that there is some weird things sometimes. I, as well, experienced it myself, but I rapidly gave up on the broken tier system.
I never understood why someone would take the time to play a private match just to downgrade someone else's map, what a waste of time in my opinion. If you don't like the map, just don't play it. And go play yours or work on yours instead. Not complicated, but I'm not in their minds.
I see some people "boosting" their maps as well, I don't really know or understand how (i.e. getting silver with one or two likes on all of their maps..), while I see good maps put down in bronze or tin, for some reasons, even with good ratio plays/likes.
Sometimes, it just needs one person to "dislike" the map to get it stuck in bronze. I saw it myself, map were silver, next play it was bronze.
About the tags I stopped paying attention cause that pointless and irrelevant, sometimes it's just.. more than obvious. I read it time to time and laught at it.
Don't care really much at the end, the only way we have to play our map is in beta, and whatever the tier / feedbacks / tags we have, it won't change anything in beta.
The title of this thread says 100% broken... I would challenge that but agree that there are some serious flaws with the MP Lobby System. I still create and play maps with friends purely because I enhoy it - sometimes it works ok although I have had to make smaller maps now as I'm lucky to get 4 to 6 in a beta lobby. The recognition system for maps where mappers are trying to get the satisfaction of being on Silver/ Gold or whatever is skewed and I agree that trollers are simply sending good maps onto a bad tier, then they complain that theres no good maps on Gold. Maybe if they actually supported, Liked and Favourited the maps that actually look an play well we would have a fairer system and a tier rating that accurately reflected the quality of the maps on there.
The whole Tier & Rating System is a joke yet they bragged about it before release - it is a shame because I am sure everyone would like something in place that works and is fair but that will NEVER HAPPEN and is pointless even trying.
Times change and with these social networking sites people have crazy numbers of friends who they no doubt will never see and the majority will not even communicate with - I see FC3 taking a share of that with this Likes thing - unfortunately there will always be a big percentage of people who would like a map because they know of the author and maybe liked their other maps (this does happen with every ratings system ever created on all Far Cry fan sites so don't anyone try to say it never happens)
I believe that we are only as good as our last map and that some maps work well where others might not, the issue is that so many people believe their own hype and think that they should get a god like status within the game - look at the Gold Playlist - all these people think that they have the right to be on that list but how many have actually been selected for Gold and what was the process ?
Well Vextor chose some maps that at the time I think had a good percentage of stats to warrant Gold - Unfortunately it looks like the maps were not looked at on PS3 and some on 360 as they are total garbage and would do well in the Bronze Tier so that clearly does not work (any single map in Gold SHOULD be play-tested for hour after hour and in every Mode - they should look amazing and suit all weapon classes in my opinion, Unfortunately Ubisoft don't appear to have the resources to do this (which company would ? to check every map nominated would be a huge time constraint and even if they find good maps most of the community will moan)
The maps that hit Gold at the Start were selected or nominated - some are really good where others are quite bad but I believe they had to have maps in that list, time moves on and people try different things in the editor and maps progress and start looking better - They should have really switched those Gold maps over several times now but at the same time they won't want to bow to player power.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place - it is the community who are selecting the maps by Nominating them and having them voted on in the forums - It is a dodgy and corrupt process that can be abused and it causes so much crap among other mappers, With FC2 and FC3 the community has become more selfish and to an extent arrogant in some cases.
Back on Instincts and Predator there were mappers that stood out and if they made a new map they would host it most of the day or leave their machine on dedicated host - People would share the maps and swap maps amongst themselves and it was always about hosting what we all believed were the best maps out there, there were no ratings and the only way to get a map was to download it from someone who had the map on their console who would host it for you to play / download.
Share and share alike - I believe it was a friendlier time, sure there were people complaining that someone stole their idea or made a similar map but this always happens and will never change, Then with FC2 and it's ratings system I noticed a more selfish side, a huge percentage would only host their own maps because they get ratings boosted and some might not host other good maps as they wanted their ratings to be better.
You can still have a crappy map that has a huge number of downloads and times played - ststs don't mean the map is any good it is all down to personal choice - maybe a map maker does not host their work very often and might not want to be a part of fan sites - does not mean their maps are bad does it.
I have to say that with FC3 it is a shambles - The Ubi Contest was a slap in the face to some mappers and although some maps were good it was clear that a huge majority of entries were never even looked at.
Also look at the Ubi Recommended and Ranked maps in Far Cry 2 - not one map got a write up, no maps that I know of were ever discussed in forums by the developers.
Now look at Far Cry 3 - how many Gold maps or maps from the Contest got a proper write up - was anything said about their strong points or which modes they excelled in - NO - It is complete bollocks.
So why not just leave out the Ratings and all the other crap - don't start something you can't finish properly and don't build peoples hopes up like with the Gold Lists - All anyone needs to know is how many times a map has been played and how many times downloaded, that is enough.
Cut out the other crap and just let people host their own playlists - unfortunately I fear FC4 will be even more full of crap with the way the ratings and social networking side move in their shady corrupt circles.
I agree I think far cry 2 had the best community when it came to maps and editorsOriginally Posted by FALLEN CHAMP Go to original post
