Ok, just started the game and I am in the very first mission, game is running in the background actually because I cannot save during a mission.
Here is the issue. The game recognizes my mouse wheel, no problem, but I cannot use the mouse wheel to change weapons as in FC3!
When I use the mouse wheel it just switches the grenade type! WTF is the deal with that? I use mouse wheel to change weapons in all FPS games I have ever played, usually it is the default action for that masp and it cannot even be changed if you want to.
I even went into the binding screen and tried to bind "next weapon" and "previous weapon" to the mouse wheel.. When it says press any key, I spin mouse wheel up, and it registers that movement, but the key stays on "-" or "=".
So why doesn't it act like FC3?
Why can't I change weapons with mouse wheel?
I'm a lefty and use arrow keys for movement and have very few keys left over there for mapping, so I can't just use 1 through 8 or whatever to switch, that hand is on my mouse..
So is this right, or is the game bugged or what?
I cannot play when I have to take my hand of the mouse to switch weapons, or take right hand off movement keys to find a key in the num pad to switch weapons.
Game look fun, but this needs to be fixed, like yesterday.
Its very annoying, every other fps i've ever played has had weapon cycling bound to mouse wheel as default, it cant even be fixed by autohotkey as it seems grenade/molotov cycle is hardcoded to mousewheel. I really love what ive played of this game so far but having to use a different key for this is very uncomfortable.
Fix please ubisoft!!
So it isn't just my setup?!
*****EDIT*****
It's even more screwed up than that. It is an actual bug- they reversed the "MOUSE WHEEL" and "MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON" controls.
Ok, so in my LOGITECH drivers, I changed my mouse "scroll left" key to "-" key, because I cannot bind a key to the wheel up and down , movement. I am already using mouse button "scroll right" for melee attack, as in FC3.
So I go into FC3 BD and set "MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON" (pushing down on mouse wheel to activate middle mouse button), and the game binds the control and labeles it "MOUSE WHEEL"- at least that is what it SAYS next to "previous weapon" in the control layout screen, but it still is binding it to the actual MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON, NOT the "MOUSE WHEEL"
So it looks as if Ubi has REVERSED the "middle mouse button", and the "mouse wheel" in the control scheme. The only problem is, it won't let you bind the actions individually, so there is no workaround until they fix it (or a modder fixes it)!
So it is a BUG.
How do errors/ bugs like this make it out the door? I don't get it! I discovered it in the first 3 minutes of gameplay.
I agree. Not having mouse wheel weapon switching is very inconvenient.
I've actually discovered that custom controls don't map in a few places in the game, most notably the maps and vehicle driving (I use ESDF not WASD). I just posted a thread about it. Perhaps the entire control setup is bugged somehow.
It's not just the wheel having problems being bound. I play using the ten key, and there is plenty of stuff over there that for some reason cannot be bound. kp_enter and kp_delete are two prime examples for me.
What makes no sense is that these things WORKED in FC3. Is this not the same engine? Why would they break something that worked before?
Yeah this is making the game a lot harder than it has to be.
I did manage a work-around by using scroll left and right for weapon change (game doesn't recognize these by default, I had to customize these functions and change them to key maps in logitech drivers control panel), and middle mouse button for melee, but it is not ideal and I have died plenty of times because of it. My mouse makes it very difficult to get a clean middle mouse button press (melee) without rocking the tilt back and forth or getting a wheel up or down movement in there to.
Right scroll is my FC3 melee (easy to hit), so I am constantly confusing that button when in a big fight, and usually getting killed because of it. Middle mouse press usually results in inadvertent weapon change which also gets me killed.
Stuff like this just makes the game not nearly as fun or enjoyable as it should be. Why they break things that don't need fixing is beyond me. Breaking the mouse wheel mapping capability sure throws off my mood when trying to enjoy all the humor in the game. Being pissed off at a game because of unneeded frustration in setting up controls makes it a lot less funny!
Just let my map the wheel up/down how I want. If this was on purpose and not a mistake, then that is ridiculous.
