    Tuesday Card Debate - 23/04/2013 -

    Dear champions,

In this week's Tuesday Card Debate, we will be talking about the Inferno fortune card Maws of Chaos:

How do you guys use this card? Do you like it? What would you change?

    Tell us all!

(Note that i only play this game for 1.5 weeks, so take this with a grain of salt)
I find it quite lacking tbh. The other card that is similair (A Duress but then you can choose any card instead of just Fortune, but the card is more expensive) is much better. The alternative is even worse, as it is just plain card disadvantage. Still, i guess the card has some merit vs combodecks, but i find it too narrow to include it in the maindeck for this reason.

Most of what you said is true, however, this card actually lets you know a lot of info which you can't get with Twist of Fate(the other card you mentioned) and you don't even have to play the card to get the info... when you start to know more about the decks you play against, you'll start to appreciate this card, since many decks rely on a few fortunes as key cards, so discarding these fortunes everytime they're drawn by your opponent can be devastating.

Yea since you can use this card only if opponent have fortune card in hand. this card gives you oportunity to know about his hand. Also if hi have fortune card in deck you can look at that deck and know what opponent hides there. I think they should improve this game by make all these type cards "can be used even if opponent dont have target card type in hand or deck".sorry for my english

The card itself is fine as it is. Low cost, low reqs in stats and used only in specific situations.

I believe that a good deck should be comprised ~90% by cards that enhance the strategy of the deck and could be called "all-around" cards and ~10% by cards that play a very specific role and are to be used against certain decks and only them. Thus, you do have a chance (albeit small) of winning vs specialised decks that are based on 1-2 key cards but you are also competitive vs most of, if not all of, the decks you might encounter.

Maws of Chaos, fits the role of special ops cards perfectly.

However, what I really dislike is the mechanics employed by this card (and other cards that interact specifically with types of cards in the opponent's hand), i.e. Spell Twister, Halls of Amnesia, etc.

It is not acceptable, to be able to know before-hand whether your opponent's hand has a valid target for the above-mentioned cards prior to playing the card.
I know that sometimes this "pre-knowledge" could backfire by twistering a Dispel or Earth's Grasp. But that is not the point.
The point is that these kind of plays which discard specific cards from the opponent's hand should involve a bit of a gamble and not have guaranteed success.
