Does one have to start a new game for MASTER difficulty to take effect ?

Or will changing it in game have the same desired effect ?

Im asking this because many game sites who announced the patch described having a option for master difficulty when starting a new game ...

I reset the Outpost after completing the game. At the same time I set my difficulty level to Master. I have not noticed any change in gameplay difficulty but my game save says that its Master level.

I also started a new game at Master level. The difference is like night and day. In the new game my arrmor can't take much of a hit. I can see some challenging times ahead.

Thanks renegate for your reply !
    To pbna stringdude :
Hmm interesting, i wonder why master difficulty would not activate in a old save game and only in a new game...... on the other hand if the changes are indeed like night and day between the old and new difficulty it could explain why it only works on a new game.

I just went on with my old save and put it on master difficulty, i so have to say- the enemies feel a whole lot more aggresive then before and i have died a lot of times while assaulting the outposts compared to before the patch + difficulty.
I will make a new game 2morrow and judge if it feels different, it will be hard i guess because lacking all the perks will make it feel different in the first place.

Though, on my current save i have completed the main storyline and on purpose only chose 1 health upgrade bar - giving me 3 health bars in total.. i rely on body armor for mistakes when executing a tactic or plan when taking a outpost ... when the error in my plan is too big i usually die specially with the new patch and master diff,
Its so fun not being able to rely and fall back on a massive health pool, this forces me to pick fights and plan stuff and stick to my loadout of weapons.

Farcry 3 becomes real immersive this way , like a hardcore mode - and i love that even on the highest diff setting the enemies still only need 1 shot in the head or after 2 or 3 shots to the torso to die this way this hardcore playstyle is still viable and very fun , when guys wear body armor i really must take them out by headshot because if they survive they start shooting allerting the others and their combined fire pins me down and i have to take cover immediatly and blindfire trying to hold them back before i start taking aimed shots.
(in the main quest i used the special craftable serum wich gives me + 3 ? healthbars i think, when the game got too difficult for me when certain mission did not offer a stealthy way, this way i can just use the serum and have a big 6 bar health pool + bodyarmor when i feel like playing around a bit more but always have a standart 3 bar with only 50% recover perks making me play ore thoughtfull and tactical.

Anyway, wish a offical dude from ubi could confirm how the master difficulty works.

    BYE !

I think my perceived difficulty may be related to the fact that when starting a new game I have to acquire all of the weapons, skills, ammo pouches, etc. from scratch whereas with an outpost reset I already have maxed weapons and carry capacity.
