Ok, so I finally broke down and bought Far Cry 3. D/L'd thru steam and 8.5Gb's later I was in business. Except for game audio, which likes to take vacations.
I'll be playing for a random amount of time and then I'll get a "pop" noise and in game audio disappears until I restart the game. The odd bit it that if I hit"Esc" for the menu there IS audio there but once I return to the game it's dead quiet.
Here's what I have done:
redownloaded/installed 3 times
Opened a trouble ticket (monday, no reply so far))
Updated my GFx drivers (GTX560)
Updated my audio drivers (on-board audio)
Double checked that I had DirectX11
Downloaded the DirectX11 SDK and set audio to "more debugging" and "run debugging"
Opened another trouble ticket with more detail (today)
I'm really frustrated here, I love the game but without audio it's not really playable.
Here's a recording of what it does before audio dies, you can actually hear my keyboard here and there because the audio goes black for a bit. It died permanently about 2 minutes later.

I just started a Master campaign for the 1st time. Had audio thru opening sequences (which we still can't skip thru). But when the scene starts in Dennis' cabin, I have no sound. To make it worse, once you're supposed to go outside, the screen goes black. No moving forward. I can access the escape menu items, but nothing else happens. The 1st time it happened, the sound cut out and all I heard was a mild buzz. Restarted mission and had no sound at all.
This happen to anybody else?
