you are not supposed to verbally communicate during a MP or co op game per the big brains like Dan Berlin:...
you can thank him and his inane ability to play mp or co op and not feel the need to talk to ANYONE during these expiditions because he apparently has the mental ability that rivals Charles Xavier.
We mortals have to simply suffer the humiliation of being mere mortals..........and $63.00 less for it.

    Strategy Informer:
Would you say then that multiplayer by way of voice communications is a failed venture?

Dan Berlin: Yes I do. The multiplayer today isn’t really people sitting together in a room, so they can’t really talk to each other. Not a lot of people use the voice functionality anyway – I never use it, I’m just sitting alone at home playing on my couch, and I get match-made with strangers, people who I’ve never met before, so that’s why we brought in the silent communication into the game, the backend systems that help you with communications.

Strategy Informer: Before this you worked on World in Conflict, what did those games teach you about online gaming?

Dan Berlin: Doing an RTS in a multiplayer universe is a tough thing – it has a lot of balancing in it, and we have a lot of stats and stuff that we’ve got from after we released the game. But it relates to stuff like latency, and a load of techie stuff that our guys handle that I know nothing about, but they’re really good at it. It’s really about brining that top-notch experience to FarCry, it plays really well. We also have a bit of legacy coming into FarCry – if you look at the Firestorm game mode, it takes a lot of legacy from World of Conflict.

The whole idea of having two nodes burning at the same – that idea came from World in Conflict, where there were three of them all connected, and so that inherited into the Firestorm game mode. Also the idea of altering the map, and altering the flow of the map also was something that was pretty big in WiC. You started off with these beautiful times, you know, real American Suburbia, and by the end of the map it’s all destroyed, craters everywhere that you could hide troops in and everything…

That’s the idea with Firestorm – the fires grow and grow, and they alter the flow of the map and where you can go, and they also change the landscape of the island as well.

What is the latest on the mic front? We've seen a few players in lobbies with the mics on so thought perhaps the static issues may have been resolved? I did put a mic on and hear some background static but the other player with his mic wasn't saying anything so I couldn't verify what the sound quality was like.

The quote from Dan Berlin is astonishing:
Strategy Informer: Would you say then that multiplayer by way of voice communications is a failed venture?

Dan Berlin: "Yes I do. The multiplayer today isn’t really people sitting together in a room, so they can’t really talk to each other. Not a lot of people use the voice functionality anyway – I never use it, I’m just sitting alone at home playing on my couch, and I get match-made with strangers, people who I’ve never met before, so that’s why we brought in the silent communication into the game, the backend systems that help you with communications".

You may be sat at home with nobody else in the room but that isn't the point. Yes you may play games with strangers but that isn't the point. If you form a team of friends and want to talk, you quite simply can't because the audio is so bad. Communication is more than what Dan Berlin is quoting. I've lost a lot of games which would have been avoided if the comms were working as they should be. In real life, the army don't go to war without any comms. What would Dan Berlin suggest they do? Maybe he would say they all need to attend psychic lessons to understand orders being given and putting ears to the ground to listen for enemy movement. Without communication in this day and age, it is impossible for the Military to operate. Going back to FC3, the lack of communication hinders the gameplay and detracts from what the developers intended which was for encouraging teamplay. Surely comms strengthen teamplay. An update on whether the audio will be fixed/patched will be appreciated.

Mic's works fine to me! There is no noise in the background anymore. Even with 4 players (friends) at the same time you can hear each other very well.
It also depends on which mic you're using, çause one of my friends is using a pc-kind of mic. With the mic infront of his mouth. So we hear a hard breathing...sounds quite disgusting some times :P
But the other en myself are using the ps3 mics and those work perfectly.

That sounds promising then. Did you ever encounter issues before with FC3 audio? It was insanely bad on release and continued to be after 1.04 at the very least, I didnt think 1.05 fixed it either. I'll give it a test soon because if it works for you and your friends then hopefully its working for all. Mind you, I'd rather not have to listen to someone's hard breathing down the mic. Either tell them to get an inhaler or an ear piece mic to reduce the noise pollution during gameplay :-)
