Rescue Brother mission manning gun while he flies : immpossible on any difficulty

Im at the stage where i have rescued Reilly, i'm manning the gun on the hopper than he is polit and escaping the airfield.

we get to the second airfield, and the next thing a barrage of 6-8 rpgs come at us , health at this point of chopper is 75%

10 times now i have retried and i even dropped the difficultly down to easy and redid from start 5 times , but still same result..

no way easy mode should hav 6-8 rpgs shooting at same time, and theres no wayto control the chopper to swing it around to even pick them off.

i have to wait for them to come into view. ths is a joke on a great game up to this point.

    plz advise

i.e. when i set easy , it is not posible to turn on auto assist, clearly this should not be the case

I finished on medium setting twice. I did it the first try the first time, but it did take 2 tries the 2nd time.

The trick for me, was to firing constantly and pointed far ahead. I mostly just aimed where I saw movement, but if I saw something that would blow up I aimed at it. There were a lot of explosions.

Nothing else really, just constant stream of fire. The gun never did overheat, stop, or run out of ammo.

    Definitely not impossible

I did twice through the story, first time on normal second time on hard. Though on hard the chopper finished with so little health I couldn't even see a sliver of life on the bar. Playing with aim assist....ewww.

Yeah, I just finished the game last night on hard and failed the first time at the part where you fly back over the airport and there are rpg guys everywhere and they are so hard to see. The second time though I just went crazy with the gun and fired at anything that seemed like a guy and we made it out with 1/4 health. The perk that allows longer mounted firing before a cool-down is almost a mandatory on hard though. It's not impossible.

But on a sidenote I thought the ending was a huge letdown.

I did it on hard. I agree that you must fire nearly constantly. Hit every red barrel you see. Rooftops seem rigged to explode so hit them too.

Don't hit the helicopters at the air base, and this is especially true if your flying over them. The explosions cause the greatest damage to your helicopter. Besides, I believe they need those choppers for the next leg in that fight. Look ahead, shoot red barrels or vehicles.

I shot them all with no damage... but I shot them before we were ever near them. Yeah, honestly if you shoot the heli's at the base they shouldn't be able to come after you in them, lol.

Yeah, you know ... first time though I shot all the helicopters and got a Failed Mission, Second time, I noticed I was getting the most damage to my chopper when I was flying over and shooting them. So on the third attempt, I just ignored them and was able to complete the mission with about 2/3's health left on my chopper. On my second play though of the game, I again, ignored the choppers and was able to complete the mission on the first run. So I guess the best advice is if your going to blow them up, do so before you get to them. If our over the top, ignore them.

BTW, on my second play though, I tried to throw a C4 pack on the white helicopter and blow it up before the Hoyt poker game. I failed ... won't blow up.

I made it first run - when approaching the airfield shoot the fuel trucks and ammo hangars (no damage when you hit early enough) - the explosions take out most bad boys .. watch the privateers arriving. They must be dead before they're on their weapons and btw the airfields are the easy part. Once you're flying over the river the real fun begins... 3 helicopters, 1 patrol boat and lots of privateers gunning at you all over the place. Better be real quick there
