The only way i see DRM and tomfoolery like this working in the long run, is dev's need to SERIOUSLY step up their quality in the testing of their games. No more releasing betas then fixing them through patches like they do now.
A game needs to be flawless the moment it is released. All it will take is a SINGLE flawed product to immediately stop people from purchasing your stuff. I for one won't buy any of the new consoles if they implement this horse crap.
Think of the ramifications they would have to justify simply to put even more money in the hands of people that work for companies that already have more than enough. Yes DEVELOPERS should get their fare share, as is their right, but we all know that isn't what this is about. It won't be the devs getting the sweet end of this deal.
I am still playing around on Far Cry 3, simply because i am bored, and i just bought it and still need to get my fix before i sell it, or let my friend borrow it. But it is quickly running out of steam. I have considered starting a new game, but for what? To get back to where i am now? Nothing to do, all this cool gear and skills but no one to use them on?
Basically, this DRM nonsense, and single license only crap will ruin the game industry. Period. Yes, it might be our tool of forcing the developers to REALLY step up their game, and stop releasing buggy, half a**ed product, but this isn't the way really.
Thank you , i agree they know were the internets headed, super fast im sure especially with 4k television headed our way. Imagine streaming 250 gigs for a full length movie. That patch guy from gametrailers says developers have to reach the 3 million units sold to start making moneyUbisoft has revealed that Far Cry 3 has shipped 4.5 million copies so far across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. This number accounts for both retail and digital sales, and exceeded Ubisoft's expectations.Originally Posted by escaperazor Go to original post
it's gonna happen because they will have (or already have) eliminated all small competitors. just like with food, you will have no choice.
it's the basics of everything of our last generations: buy out the small industries, with the promise that the big companies will offer same or better quality for a better price. then guess what happens when the big companies have bought all the small ones, and the consumer has no more choice? they lower the quality to not even finished/tested products, have all main review sites vote them 9/10 (i'm not talking just about games!), and what choice does the consumer really have?
you're gonna react like this at first, then you'll get used to buying crap games for 100 $ and throw them away after a week. forum trolls will come with stupid arguments of the kind: ''well when i go out in the weekend i spend $100 in just few hours, to get in a disco and have couple drinks'', and slowly you will start accepting being ripped off like that.
Platforms like Steam and Origin already force you to have a new copy of a game on PC. Consoles were always intended to be more locked down so this has always been inevitable. Game developers have been trying to force game trades away with things like online passes and packaged DLC. This is just a logical step for consoles so that developers don't have to build such annoyances in to the games. My personal opinion of places like gamestop (USA I Guess) and CEX, or any place that does game trade-ins is that they are a massive rip-off. You take in a game that was £40, get £8 trade in value and fork out for another £40 game, rinse and repeat. All you do is lose money. I keep all games I buy. Sometimes I feel like playing them again so it's nice to still have them. It's a false economy to think you are getting a good deal by trading you old games in. You are getting ripped off, plain and simple.
Any game you can think of will eventually be readily available on the cloud.SELL your physical copy of anything while you can still get a dollar for it. My other thought watching the video was even if you had the money to buy the 5 games you wish for that come out soon, who on earth has time to play and master that many games? Who ever that guy is his mom must be proud. Are you going to listen to absolutely any advice that comes from someone who wears a razor on a hemp necklace near his own throat? What is the purpose of that I wonder, is it there to be a threatening thing of some type or just available to use immediately after his rant? kind of a special... maybe I am showing my age here but PLEASE SHUT UP. I didnt finish this vid.. too annoying.
If they do try to pull this off, I won't be buying any new consoles or games unless new games are all $10 or under.
No resale value, not possible to trade, not possible to lend/borrow to/from friends. You best believe that's a paddlin'.
I dont think nextgen consoles will be as successful as this gen, the 360 has a massive player base thats been built up over 7 years or so, if nextgen doesn't play 360 games (which it wont imo) say they release cod in Q4 2013 on both current and next gen, which they most likely will, there will be a huge divide you will have about (just a guess) 20% players on nextgen and the other 80% on current for months or even years after release, does anyone else see a problems with this, and i want to know whether our gamertags just cross over to new machines.
Lol. Good stuff.Originally Posted by TheRealDrewdelz Go to original post
360 didn't play original XBox so probably same will happen but it's possible MS will break the usual trend and make it compatible. However, I imagine big name games, especially COD, will be next gen only. Developers will not be maintaining two versions. Current gen development will just stop and all new games will be for next gen.Originally Posted by AW LOST SOLDIER Go to original post
