Would you have purchased far cry 3 knowing it would have no resale or trade in value ? Pretty soon will be shelling out $70 -$80 dollars for a game that you can only use on one singular console. I'm not surprised in any way, greed has been apart of the world wide business model for quite some time now. I could go on and on about this matter however I believe the industry is going to inflict a massive wound upon itself. (EA) were all sorry that game stop probably made more money off call of duty than you from all those resold copies, but suck it up. I predict huge changes in gaming shortly especially with a droid gaming console on the horizon. I used to casually buy games thinking if it sucked or I got tired of it I could trade it in for something. Now all that's about to end and ultimately I believe it will result in less game sales for the industry, because after buying far cry 3 was lesson learned. Yes I will purchase a next gen console which won't be sony for my own personal reasons but I will certainly will wait for good informative game reviews before buying another steaming heap again. greedy bastards. I love what this guy has to say about it here on this youtube video funny at 3:50 and 7:03
I just purchased Gears Of War 3 and Dead Space 2 as used titles (in excellent condition)
I didn't want to purchase them at launch and the price was good - unfortunately as a used title the developers get zero from the sale so I can understand the pain in that but at the same time I could be willing to purchase DLC if I like the games enough.
My opinion is that people will either wait for some games to come down in price before purchasing or they won't take the risk at all and won't buy - The result could be that those who wait and purchase would be keeping the game alive if they enjoy it and stick around but those that don't - well it's a sale lost to the developers and no purchase of DLC if it's worth purchasing.
I will be selective of which games I purchase at full price and I usually keep onto these titles so I will no doubt have a console with fewer games.
there were rumours of "ps4" having anti used game stuff before the "xbox720".
cloud games wont replace retail till atleast one more gen. even then its a stretch because not everyone has b/band so they will actualy be lost sales.
online pass is a perfectly fine way of doing things if the content accessed is of good quility.
It's such a bad decision if they do go this route.
I trade in my used games to Gamestop when I stop playing them. What do I do with that money? I buy brand new games. Everyone gamer I know does this as well.
Less sales, less people playing, less DLC sales, you name it. I wouldn't buy a next gen console, i'd just build a gaming rig and get the necessary parts to play on my TV.
The bad news is ps4 will probably block used games even i think its the only way they'll survive this new console war because they patented the ability to do so a while back. Like champ said hes going to be selective (key word selective). Games are going to have to offer better DLC as an incentive to even purchase the title to begin with. Perfect example battle field and cod have stepped up their DLC options abit.. More so battlefield they've so many expansion packs so far very good quality so far in my opinion. It would have been more profitable for developers and 2nd hand game stores to strike out a deal where developers get a cut off every sale. I have to admit game stop really deserves it though, i remember trading crysis 2 for xbox in 2 weeks after release. The guy said trade in value was $13, i wanted to crash my car into the building like the terminator. Toys r us gave me $35. All i'm really trying to say is i hope that these developers realize thet they're going to have to deliver a good gaming experience for me to dish out 70 -80 for a game or since theres no replay or resale value ( lower the F%$#(*& price.)
Exactly. Developers are going to have to learn how develop a properly working game. Nobody is going to want to shell out cash for a game like FC3 that is partially broken, especially if there is no trade value. Nothing better than having a $60+ game that doesn't work.Originally Posted by Leadstorm76 Go to original post
I remember just reading an article about Bioshock Infinite, the lead dev said that two games worth of content was taken out. You know what is most likely going to happen? They'll package that content as DLC, and sell it for another $20, when it should have been playable right off the bat. I love buying an 8 hour story that has no replay value, because the devs were to lazy to give us content that was worth $60. This is just another reason the gaming world is going to trash. They keep increasing prices, and keep giving us less content.
