Current Multiplayer Modes (I am having a bad time)

Far Cry 3 is a game I find myself not wanting to play unless SP or COOP so I really hope we can get a new game mode that will wet the appetite of the run and gunners / attackers and adrenalin seekers of this game because I can't be the only one who finds the current modes and play UN-exciting.

Unfortunately I have struggled a lot with Multiplayer - I just find that there is far too much defending to be done - there is nothing wrong with the actual game modes but I believe they could have been so much more fun with some tweaks, I have listed my issues but also would love to see some form of DLC - I understand the majority want Capture The Flag but I myself would like some Solo Killing - See what you think.

Obviously my post is quite selfish - but I am in hope that enough people would like a form of change and in hope that something cold be done at some stage - Even with the many changes people want such as vehicles, a lobby/playlist I myself will still struggle with these game modes and it looks like without something faster paced or fun I am going to have to look elsewhere for my kicks and I have always loved the Far Cry Games,

    DOMINATION MODE
In Domination I captured all points in 26 seconds (placed them all very close in the editor while running this test, The map time was set to 10 mins) So I sat with all 3 points captured and the match finished with around 3 mins 40 seconds left (approx)
That means that from the first few seconds a team can start capturing nodes and after 26 seconds they have all 3 in their possession but the match would still play out for a further 6mins 14 seconds (approx)

That to me is a very dull and boring mode, with some opposition that get to capture a node several times over the 10 min match we are most likely to play for the full 10 minutes - also a team that is losing can at times have players that jump out of the game leaving the team weakened and this would make it even more difficult for them to turn things around.

I would have said that once a Team captures ALL 3 domination points (nodes) the bar should move faster in their favor - this would cause the other team to panic and give them a sense of urgency and the wining team are getting a reward for working as a team and locking the stations down, Right now my own personal opinion is that Domination is extremely dull and boring, like going through the motions but no excitement - I find myself praying for the clock to tick down faster in almost every match.
    Sorry

    TRANSMISSION MODE
Ok I got to Transmitter One with the clock at 09mins 20 seconds and I started capturing this node.
It took 20 Seconds to Capture (clock now at 09mins) and I am told to Defend
With 7 mins 20 seconds remaining I get the message Transmitter One Fired Up (That took 2 mins) now a second Transmitter also comes into play and is available to capture but Transmitter one still has a little more time to defend.
At 0620 left on the clock I get this message "We got everything on Transmitter One lets go" (So basically I could have spent 3 mins defending)

I understand that the player could go looking for a killing spree and stop the enemy from getting close to the transmitters once they are active but come on defending for this amount of time is just so boring for the run and gunners among us - and as stated simply killing other players alone is not the best way to earn XP - so we are forced into camping / defending which for me is again tedious and boring.

Now if I were to capture the Transmitter and say defend for 40 seconds then that would be more like it (but I understand the map size could be bigger so it could take longer to get to the transmitter, but at the same time the Transmitters would come into play more so it would force movement around the map getting to / from them, not sure if others would like this but the current mode is not one that I want to play - I simply wait for a time to tick down while watching a bar move extremely slowly from one side to the other - again with a 10 min time you will see this run its cause in every game, no way of dominating and ending the game early - every match is a 10 min match.

    Team Death Match
This is what it says, not a lot to say except I wish that instead of that **** scroll bar I would rather see how many kills the team has and then be able to work out that if we are set to 50 kills and we have 45 then 5 more kills will win the match, unfortunately we play out for the duration of the time again - it isn't such a problem in this mode but again the adrenalin junkies have no cause for risk as the timer is going to run its cause anyhow - It would have been nicer to see how many players got how many kills so the movie at the end shows the top 3 number of kills and XP - But kills don't matter in this mode - it is all about working as a team and the XP (I forgot - Far Cry is not what it was)

    FIRESTORM
This can end early and can be fun for me but I have had some bad experiences where players have left very early and the match has ended very early (which isn't a bad thing for the team with hardly any players on their side)
There could be a little confusion with some players, but for me it's my No.1 choice mode as the rest are like watching paint dry.

Here is an alternative that I would love with 3 spin offs (seen in lots of other games)
    DEATH MATCH
Just the random Death Match mode seen in almost every other FPS to date, we could lose that scroll bar and instead it would work on kills alone, I am unsure how this would work with the end of match movie because they appear to be linked to XP - I would personally scrap it on this mode and just have a kill cam type thing where it zooms in on the player with the most kills as the timer ends or the number of kills is reached.

So the spawns, they would work from the random spawns only - have them set into their new Mode Menu so all players start in a random spawn and once killed they take up one of the available spawns.

Now the spin off mode - LAST MAN STANDING
This has always worked well and been fun / exciting in many other games, basically the last remaining player alive wins, the kill/player cam zooms in on them as the match ends and any killed player goes into 3rd person perspective view where they can watch the action through another players eyes and have the option to scroll through the remaining players who are alive. Obviously a time limit is needed as dead players won't sit forever waiting.

    PSYCHO
This is simply based off the Psyche Gas which many players including myself have not seen as it takes ranking up to around Level 73 to experience (such a waste)
Basically it's the opposite of Last Man Standing - we start with one player who is in the form of a Dark Demon with piercing eyes and there is the whispering noises in the background) as the effects of the Psyche Gas are - once this player makes a kill he then gets an accomplice (so there are 2 of them in this form) they stay like this for the duration of the match.
Each player killed would turn into one of these Demons and would look the same, Give them a slight boost in speed and armor / health and it would be more to their advantage that they will eventually win.
Their goal is to take down and transform every player - the winner is again the last man standing but instead of players sitting out watching they all become demons on the same side - I believe this could be a fun game of cat and mouse.

The main issue I would see is how the Team Support works, I would say either take it out or restrict it to specific choices and make them hard to earn - also I would have the mini map off as default and see if the player cam can replace the end of match movie.

Chris there is an option to turn the Radar off in the settings but my guess is that in the playlists Gold / Silver / Bronze etc we might get a default setting with the Radar on.
I was always a fan of no radar to be honest.

It would be good to hang out with you guys and FC3 was supposed to be a team orientated game but I just feel that it didn't quite work - to be fair I think on paper everything would look good and they did try some things which are different from the majority of games with the Battle Cry / Team Support Weapons (with a difference) and the Skills, there is a good amount of stuff to customize and the weapons alone with leveling them up and getting the right balance could be a wet dream for some out there I am sure.

I think I am a little more old school in what I like and I have not moved over as good as the majority with a lot of changes to the 1st Person Shooters to date, I think a game mode which was back to basics would have been better for myself but I couldn't expect that for a small minority of players.

What did all the damage though was not been able to properly get players onto the same team and also having to restart every match and send out invites when changing to a new user made map.
Then all the waiting, we wait approx 90 seconds between rounds (obviously so players can fine tune weapons / set decoders off etc) then we get the start in 10 seconds.
Then another screen start in 10 seconds, then the Loading Screen, then the Fly Over cam by the time the game starts we are around 2 mins or longer, this is all playing time wasted.

I am still in hope that with the next game we can get to perfect some things which the community will always want and which will keep us all happy and whatever else they include will be a bonus if it works out.

Vextor is a good guy and the team over there have added in some excellent stuff for us all - a lot of this gets missed with our complaints, this is the frustrating part - it is also a huge worry because looking at the crap in the forums if it were me I would say why give these people an editor at all with the next Far Cry release, we look ungrateful but it is our passion and expectations that have forced a lot of the negativity we see and read.

Far Cry 3 got some of the best scores of 2012 - But it would be sad to see it turn into either a single player only game or a game with no editor, each area could do with some changes and we can't expect to get perfection even though we want that.

Champ great post! And I couldn’t agree more! It’s one thing to severely limit the modes we have available but when those modes are not executed very well it leaves us disappointed. Here are some other points I would like to add on current game modes.

Domination: this one is probably best executed on the game, capture speed, hold speed can definitely be addressed and the impact on the winner can also be accelerated as Champ stated but overall I think this one needs the least attention.

Transmission: on paper it’s great, in game it is executed terribly. I echo everything that Champ has stated. Within its current state how is it really THAT different from Domination? 3 minutes for 1 point to appear then go away? And in a 10 min match you rarely have more than 3-4 pts that are contested. Does that sound like domination to anyone else? This game mode needs to be fast and frantic, changing nodes every 60-90 secs (45 secs on smaller maps) the goal of this mode should be to have 2-3 conflicts per node then move on. I played a map the other night that had 6 capture points, in a 10 min match we only got to 3 of them leaving half the map essentially unused. This is poor execution on an otherwise classic game mode.

Firestorm: I really like this mode and it’s one that is designed and executed pretty well. My only complaint is that I should be able to stop Capturing a node if I sense/see an enemy coming. I takes so long to set fire to the node and there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to defend yourself during the process if you want. I get that they are trying to make it more “team oriented” by making it tough to do on your own but if that is the case I would rather be able to decide whether to stop and defend and risk having it reset or just to power through it and hope to not get killed before it’s finished. In its current state you just go to node A and hold the button down for 40 secs and hope no one sees you with no choice of stopping. Lots of missed opportunities there. Imagine in Halo being a flag carrier and never being able to drop the flag to defend yourself. Yes it sounds absurd and there are a ton of great moments that would never have happened if that is how it was done….this needs to change.

As for your suggestions, any game mode they can add would be a huge plus. How they don’t have deathmatch, CTF, assault mode is just mind boggling.

i have to disagree with the gamemodes.
I really like transmission as it directs all players to one area of the map...the run an gun in this mode is best, simply because (depending on the map) everybodys heading in the same direction.
My second favorite is Domination, what can i say stealth is summin that FC has been known for, an objective based modes does try to stop camping.
Simply hate Firestorm...this bores me sooo bad, as soon as i see the map is firestorm i backout as soon as i can!! worse game mode ever in my view. One match icrept into one of their barrel zones, an set alight the thing...cool...i did this for around 5-6mins, kept lighting it, hide around corner, ligting it, hiding...didnt see anyone! Actually someone did appear, one of my team-mates, an it turned into who could light the barrel first match lol
Team deathmatch is fine...same as it ever was

They have their money, they will drop this game and move on unto the next gen where they will trick some more people into buying a eve worse example on how to copy the COD franchize and get millions out of that too. Gaming has become really sad since COD. everythinglooks like it plays like it and since FC3 even worse, its a new low. How can you make a game worse then COD.... Its fps on easy mode and fc3 made it an unplayable one... Bravo.

I can't buddy - one more night shift to go then 4 days off.
Also my 360 was borrowed to my Niece over the weekend as after 6 and a half hours of her I needed to get some peace - I will get it back tomorrow as I also ordered old games Dead Space 2 and Gears Of War 3 - looking at getting Halo 4 also soon, been into Far Cry games for so long that I missed out on these other gems.

As for FCIP - Yeah I would love that, it would be good to get a good host with a lot of old classic maps, I still have a lot of the old ones on my HD from yester year, the good thing with that game is that you can make a terrible looking map and it could be fun to play - had a lot of fun on some maps because the weapon. vehicle and spawn placement was really good.

One thing I would like to point out with FC3 and this could be a question that might be beneficial to us if we got an answer.
On Far Cry Instincts Predator everyone joining a match downloads the map from the Host, if the map has a lot of terrain then the map file size is bigger so the download takes longer - with a full lobby this can be a nightmare but if everyone already has the map it is a lot better.

Now we had this option with Far Cry 2, again with maps that carry a lot of terrain their download time is a lot longer - I am wondering about this next part.
If someone is wanting to host a map with an infinite timer - as an example a race map or even an escape map, some of us are thinking that the way the guts of Far Cry 3 work they would not want thousands of people all leaving a map running all day long bleeding the resources of their server (I don't have a clue about the ins and outs of how it works)

But what if these types of map were allowed by those joining / downloading the map from either the host or from the Ubisoft File Share system then joining the match which the host uses his/her own internet connection to run the map ?

They would only be hitting into their own internet speeds / resources that way, and if they had an option for No joining while the map is in play then that should not create any lag which we would normally get when players are downloading from the host while the match is in play.

    Just a thought.

XT Pusher we can look at getting some matches going on Pred, If it works out we can switch to the Ultimate Far Cry area and maybe try and get a few others interested.

I can't agree on that one sorry, played a lot of CTD in FC2 and SNS mode in Instincts & Pred (Capture The Flag basically) and once players got the Pipe Bombs there was always one camping around the Sample location - same in FC2 with the I.E.D

I see no difference with Transmission and Domination, a large percentage of those modes is Defending so I look at the defending as camping - what is the difference ? (basically sat holed up somewhere waiting) It happens - a good team in these modes would have a defense but for me the defending is what I don't like - Maybe if I was in a regular / team I could go forward attacking but the game does not have a team friendly system right now where we can play on the same side over and over through different maps. Just my opinion though, I think that Objective based modes can bring in an element of camping but so can DM and TDM, I guess it depends on if it is the individuals style of play.

I have to add though that if all players stay in one area then an Objective could not be completed so someone has to make a move to take an area - so yeah they do try to force movement - but movement could be more frantic and fast paced if we didn't have to defend as long as we do.

Domination works similar to conquest on BF (im sure halo n CoD have similar modes, but cant say for sure), you run an contest each base capture point...unless the teams are terrible unbalanced, theres normally always a base to capture/attack. Im primarily a BF player, so K/D doesnt really matter as much to me as say SPM.
You are right, campers are a growin desease on FPS's, but i dont call defending an objective camping. I call camping someone not playing to the objectives, or even worse useing the objectives to their own gain e.g. waiting outside an uncaptured base, hiding in a corner waiting for their next victim to run by them, an shooting them in the back.
I too played alot of CTD on FC2, an after a while of all the running capturing a diamond i'd use to enjoy defending it...there were worse cretins than campers on CTD lol remember the guys on your team who'd wait by your diamond station with a detonator in their hand...BOOM...wasted..they'd pick up the diamond off you an score the point...TEAMWORK

Fallen Champ, that would be fun, yesterday me and XT Kiwi played some predator, of course not many others are around but it was great fun. The oSo guys are always in for some FCIP, but maybe that will be difficult with timezones. I'm mostly playing from monday till friday nights. Maybe we should make some threads on the Xbox.com forums.

I remember you had some great maps so it should be fun !!
