Same old question I expect. FPS issue.
Hello.
My name is Phil. I used to play IL2 years ago but haven't been able to for a long time.
I just bought a Dell XPS L702X with the following specs.
I7 CPU (Quad core. Aren't they all quad core these days?)
8Gb RAM
nVidia GT555m with 3Gb RAM
All up to date (I think), IL2 CoD up to date (I think)
My frame rate is a big pile of sweaty knickers I'm afraid.
I have seen similar machines and some lower spec machines running silky smooth FPS at high settings so I know that with a bit of tweaking I should be able to sort mine out but I cannot seem to find a how-to guide to do this or any tools such as one I heard about for Radeaon users dealing with GPU clocking issues.
I just wondered if anybody had any hints and tips about tweaking and configuring for silky smooth frame rates?
Cheers

. all i can suggest is turning off the vsync, the aa (in game and the vcard controller), and turning stuff like buildings and grass to minimal.

First point, Laptops an CoD are not generally a good mix.
I've yet to see glowing reports from anyone attempting to play CoD on a laptop
In theory your laptop has quite good specs, however it is a laptop and is usually not set up as a screaming gaming rig- how many icons are there in your taskbar? I'm guessing more than a few
You mention low fps- is this constant low fps or sudden drops/freezes?
Before doing anything backup any important data- then make another backup
There are 2 areas to look at with your setup: getting your laptop set up optimally and getting your game setup right
Starting with your laptop:
Probably the most important 2 questions:
1) do you have a physical disk to reinstall operating system etc if you do stuff it up while trying to tweak?
2) how much experience do you have tweaking pc's?
If the answer to 1 is no and the answer to 2 is none/not a lot then I can't recommend messing around due to the risk of you aquiring an expensive 'brick'
My basic advice would be to turn off as many programs as possible , turn off anti virus (disconnect from internet first), turn off any power saving options, particularly video card, disable any AA/AF in video driver settings, run on power supply not battery. set power options to max performance, turn off automatic updating for everything, disable scheduled processes etc etc
Further tweaking- these sites might be interesting reading?

WRT CoD setup:
first thing to do is a steam 'verify files'
Then 'delete cache'- go to ..\\ Documents/1C SoftClub/il-2 sturmovic cliffs of dover/ cache
and delete all files inside.
While you are in the Docs/.../CoD folder, make a backup of your 'conf.ini' file somwhere and delete the original. It will be rebuilt when you start game
Run game at the new reset settings.
Any better?
Have you tried all very low settings?
does this make a difference in fps?
2 last things to try:
go to the folder where CoD is installed ....//steamapps/common/il-2 sturmovik cliffs of dover
and open the folder called 'redist'. run the setup applications in both 'DirectX' and 'DotNetFx40_Client' folders.
Reboot and try game again
