Is the Far Cry 2 custom map community still alive?

    Hey guys

So, I've always been a massive fan of the FC2 map editor, and I used to spend countless hours working on FC2 maps. Now that FC3 has come along, I'm rather disappointed. I'm a PC player, and I'm shocked to see P2P networking that, quite frankly, doesn't actually work. I don't think I've managed to complete one single match without either a connection error the Ubi servers (LAME!) or constant host migrations.

So anyway, to get to the point, do people still play FC2 online a lot, do people still play custom maps a lot? Is FC2 still going and should I get back into it?

The fact is that I just can't play FC3 multilayer in its current state, and even the single player is a bit of a let down for me. I miss the brutal unforgiving atmosphere of FC2. The planning, the music, the integrity of the experience! But that's another thread altogether. What I really want to know is... going back to FC2, yes or no? Thanks for advice guys

well.. Far Cry 2 is like walking into a morgue. It's golden days have died, and all thats left are maybe the 5-10 players a day that like to go back and ponder old times.

Im just going to weather the storm when it comes to far cry 3, might as well make maps for a game that should work well in the future.

I think that might actually be the only solution. I will just make FC3 maps and wait until the server system is actually fixed. Although I worry that I might be waiting for some time as a PC only player.

The FarCry 2 and FarCry 3 map making community is dying all thanks to Ubisofts annoying decisions and behaviour. And if they continue like this I doubt there will ever be a FarCry 4 community, let alone giving us an editor to build maps WE want to build, and not an editor to make maps UBISOFT wants us to build. So to be honest, I would not waste your time. Better wait till February 2013 when the new Crysis 3 comes out with an editor that DOES work and lets you make any kind of SP or MP map. Or you could already download their free map editor at their community website.

i do think it's a pity they don't allow fan made maps, i also wonder if it's possible at all to use a FC2 map in FC3.
i make maps for about 12 years now and even while i love the editor's easiness, it is so limited any respectful mapper would feel way to restricted to really unwind.

People are still playing FC2 on PS3. Amount of players seems to be quite normal compared with last two years. Full matches in CTD, TDM and DM. For example I'm making new maps for FC2 all the time.

Yesterday 40 maps published for PS3 and 26 for XBOX.

    FC2 map datebase.

I was wondering the same thing. I sold my copy of FCC 2 in anticipation of FC 3. Little did I know that it was a downgrade. I'm thinking about picking it up again (used of course, since Ubi doesn't deserve any more of my money after this, unless they fix FC3) and seeing if there are people still playing. Maybe since atq least a few of us who have posted here represent many who are thinking along the same lines.

I just can't wrap my mind around the decisions made for FC 3: add AI but cripple the usage; remove weapons, vehicles, amo supplies, destructible items etc from being used; remove any feasible option to ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO PLAY YOUR OWN MAPS in a proper public lobby.

I think this is a franchise killer, unless of course they listen to their customers.
