IL-2 COD still stutters badly at 18th Dec 2012
I already posted this elswhere on this site so sorry if you read already.
Still stutters
I of course have the latest patch as downloaded by steam and yesterday the 17th Dec 2012 tried a total reinstall of IL-2 COD but still severe stutters. I really love this game and would spend hours on the steep learning curve but I just can't get past the stuttering. My system is a AMD bulldozer 6100 6 core cpu running a 3.3mgz, 8 mg of ddr3 ram 1333, and an ATI Radeon 7870 GPU. which should be more that enough, The strange thing is according to Fraps the frame rates are between 40fps and 50fps at say the first campaign mission when I am sitting on the ground waiting to take off, I look up and the german bombers going across the sky, or should I say jump across sky above the airfeild. Those stutters or freezes if you like are still there. Can't help thinking what we PC gamers have to put up with, I mean if you bought a TV or say a new car that kept stopping and starting you would take it back for repair or refund. After all what we are buying in IL-2 COD is a faulty product, there is nothing on the box or on Steam to say, " this game has faults and may freeze up during play and doesn't run properly. Its not good enough. My system plays X-plane 10 which is a very heavy simulator on medium to high settings smooth as silk, all the Total War series in ultra settings and of course Wings of Prey no problem so its back to Wings of Prey again I suppose.
If anyone has any other help to offer in stopping these stutters I would be forever in your debt, of course I don't mean the makers or producers of this game, who is it Maddox games or something that would be to much to ask.

Hi devalera2011,
My system is similar to yours and I'm not having the the big stutters you are talking about. Ok I do have some "micro stutters" but certainly not anything that has planes stopping/jumping across the sky that you are seeing. I have similar fps to what you are getting. It sounds like you have something going on in the background (possible AV conflict).
Also are you running your vid card at o/c?, I have an Sli setup with capped 35fps done through My Vid card software (ATI should have something similar), max fps doesn't always give best performance and can result in over heating and early failure of components.

over water it should be smooth, i get 50-55 FPS easy. the only stutter i get is over land and alot of static items are being "drawn" in. stutter i mean micro stutter. pretty smooth game overall IMO.

Not to get off the subject, but I also have 2 add-ons for the IL2-Sturmovik 1946, which is a prerequired download b4 those add-ons. These however are not ones I've been able to find in the US, but rather had them sent to me from Germany by a friend. They can also be found on www.ebay.de. These are: Fliegerasse! Der Stern von Afrika. (Aufstieg und Fall des Hans Joachim Marseille) Fighter Aces! The Star of Africa (The rise and fall of Hans Joachim Marseille) and Fliegerasse! Der Eismeerjäger Walter Schuck.(Adler über der Tundra). Fighter Aces! The sea of ice fighter pilot Walter Schuck. (Eagle over the tundra). Both are from Desastersoft, a trademark of Ubisoft and both are compatible with IL2 Sturmovik 1946 and download with Windows XP / Windows Vista. The Star of Africa requires Patch 409-DS to be downloaded and so far I havn't been able to do so even though I was able to find it. Any computer wiz out there who can help?

I'm running an Sli system and have finally got rid of the stutters by doing a fps limit (35fps). Now the game runs smoothly even at roof top level over London.
There should be a compatible tool for Ati to do the same thing.

I can't seem to find a compatible setting in the Catalyst Center.

AngryHatter, have you tried ATI Tray Tools? don't know if this free utility has a fps setting or not but you could give it a try. Available at 3d Guru
Cheers
