    Additional Solution

EternalCore: Thank you so much for all of your efforts!

After spending a bunch of time with this, I'm rather frustrated, but happy to report I have another possible solution. One which I've tested somewhat heavily, and which does seem to be reliable.

WARNING: Before attempting this, note that following this process will very likely uninstall Internet Explorer 10 and 11, which seem to depend on the update which is causing the problem. Try the other solutions before attempting this! Attempting to reinstall these later versions of Internet Explorer will cause the target update to be restored as well. Be sure you're willing to live with IE 9 or an alternative browser before attempting this process.

NOTE: This works on Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. I don't know if it works on FC 1, 3, or 4, but may be worth a try.

    Symptoms:
Autopatch crash message in FC3: Blood Dragon.
    Game crashes on loading.
Error message cites Event Name: BEX, and one of the hex values in the message is usually c0000005 for an Access Violation.
FC2 produces no error message window. It just crashes after the splash screen.
Internet Explorer acting weird, especially with graphically intensive operations.

    Steps:
Go to this Microsoft.com page for instructions on how to remove an installed update:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...#1TC=windows-7

The update you want to remove will be listed under Microsoft Windows. It should appear as "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2670838).

Once the update is removed, restart your computer.

That's it! Your Far Cry game should work now.

    My System:
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)
CPU: 3.4 GHz AMD Phenom II 965 X4 Black Edition
    Motherboard: BIOSTAR A780L3G
    RAM: 4GB
    DirectX: 11
    Video: AMD Radeon HD 6670 @ 1280 x 1024 (32-bit, 60Hz)
    Video drivers: 15.200 (from manufacturer)

    Other helpful URLs:
Information on this update and known problems: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2670838

Though various pages associate problems with AMD, some nVidia systems are having trouble too. I don't see the problem occurring on 32-bit versions of Windows 7 though. It may also have something to do with nVidia PhysX software being installed, or remnants of some other video card or integrated chipset hanging around and causing conflicts. I used to have an nVidia GeForce 8400 GS on this computer.

The above update has a lot to do with DirectX, so removing it may solve problems with other games as well.

If this doesn't solve your problem, Data Execution Prevention may be worth fiddling with, though it isn't causing me any problems with my versions of Far Cry.

Heya, gkanelgames! There's a thread about this over in the Blood Dragon forums, and there's a fix that's working for most people. If the instructions on that link don't help, please contact our support team. Thanks!

FC3 Crashing on Startup "Far Cry 3 Has Stopped Working" Windows 10

I'm on Windows 10, when I launch the game I see the first small window then the game tries to go full screen but crashes everytime, with the message "Far Cry 3 Has Stopped Working". I have tried launching it in Compatibility Mode with Winows 8/7/xp and disabled GPU Tweak and anything else. I went to disable Tablet Input Service but it was already turned off.

Thanks for the update. If you've made a support ticket, cool -- if not, I recommend it. In the meantime, have you been tweaking the settings in your game's config file ("GamerProfile.xml")? If not, it might be worth it. I do recommend saving a backup to your desktop (or somewhere safe). If you haven't yet, you could try adjusting the resolution in the .xml to fit your monitor. Note that you may have to enter the new resolution twice.

Alternatively, you could attempt turning fullscreen mode off. You may be able to do this when you launch the game by hitting alt+enter when the black screen appears.

    Windows 10. Not Responding.

    Hello.

I will give my specs in just a second but this is the problem. I bought Far Cry 3 via Steam a while back and wanted to test it out today.
I launched the game and it crashed after showing the first picture with FC3 on it. I googled it and tried to fix it. Now I got it to the point in which I pass the first screen and go into fullscreen. Its a full black screen I get after I enter fullscreen and it gets followed up by the 'Far Cry 3 isn't working anymore message. I have no idea what to do next so here I am.

    Specs:

    OS: Windows 10 Home (10.0.14393 Build 14393)
    CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz
    Motherboard: Asus H97 Plus
    Ram: 16GB DDR3
    GPU: AMD Radeon R9 390

    Help would be very appreciated!

    Periodic freezing

    Hi.
I have 4 sec duration freezing in every 15th sec. Between freezes the fps and quality is okay in 1280*720 ....1920*1080 too. Never read about a periodic freeze on the web. No error message, only game stop in every 15-20 sec. It is mystic.
So my PC is not 10 years old And this is only in windows 10. 3 or 4 years ago on W7 I had not this problem. (so FC4 is lagging too after 1 hour playing, but on a Win7 runned always above 25-30 fps 4-5 hours long. I dont understand.

Even in 2017 this game is randomly crashing every 15 minutes. Every hour or two the screen goes black and the game hangs.

Fully patched Windows 7 64 here + NVIDIA drivers 378.66 + GTX 1060 (no overclocking or anything)

No other game crashes on my PC even when running for hours (including Deus Ex Mankind Divided and The Division - both much more demanding games).

Crashing after 10-15 minutes in chapter 8. No issues in the game up until now.

Just like the subject says. I run everything else on my system flawlessly. I've even been running THIS on my system flawlessly through the current chapter, 8. Now, the game will randomly freeze and CTD, loose sound>freeze>CTD, not load graphics correctly>freeze>CTD.

I tried several of the fixes, checked drivers, etc. Nothing seems to be wrong.
