Uh, no. It will not kill the SDD.1. At this point in our current technological time: You NEVER use a SSD for a games drive because the amount of reading/writing to the SSD will kill it in a matter of months... If you used it for awhile now then It wouldn't surprise me if the drive is almost dead already.
Anyway, dumb comments aside, I have the same issue as slicenglide. I was running on a HD and with a similar system. I just switched to an SSD, so I installed Windows 8 on the new drive, 310.90 drivers and my sound drivers. I ten installed FC3 and hit the exact same black screen freeze/crash I had before.
Either my hardware is toast, or this game is amazingly broken.
I have been getting crashes in Far Cry which eventually lead to the Exception Code c0000005 in farcry3_d3d11.
I tried uninstalling and reloading everything, turning on compatibility mode, etc. in Windows 8 64-bit. Nothing worked.
Since I had taken a complete system backup JUST prior to the last crash, I performed a full restore of the system (C:\) and programs drives (D:\), leaving the data drive (E:\) alone. I deliberately built my system so that the users folder was on a separate drive (E:\) from the system (C:\) and programs (D:\) drives. Sure enough, the same error came back again. I knew that the program files, registry, etc. had been reset back to before the original crash, so I figured that it had to be data file corruption.
What I found was that the GamerProfile.xml file in User\Documents\My Games\Far Cry 3 had become corrupted. I deleted the file and Far Cry 3 loaded and created a new one. The only thing I lost was the in-game settings (video, etc.) and some progress as the restore reverted back to an old save from the previous day. If I had backed up my saved games prior to the restore, I wouldn't have lost a thing.
After the restore, I also noticed that AMD overdrive was enabled in the AMD Catalyst Control Center. My card, a Sapphire Radeon 7950 OC is already overclocked so overdrive is not needed. I'm guessing (haven't tested it yet) that overdrive being enabled is what was making my system unstable in the first place when playing Far Cry 3.
Exception Code c0000005 farcry3_d3d11 Fix:
Try opening My Documents\My Games\Far Cry 3\GamerProfile.xml with a text viewer (i.e. notepad). It should be a standard XML text file. If it is unreadable or empty, try renaming it to GamerProfile.xml.old and re-launch Far Cry 3. Far Cry 3 will create a new one. You will have to reconfigure any game pad, keyboard or video settings.
They had me delete the GamerProfile.xml document when I was on the phone with support. No change.Originally Posted by IceFireDH Go to original post
My GPU is OC'd from the factory. I tried settings that other brands have it clocked at but no change.
The config file fix was already under Solution 7, on the 1st post of this thread, for quite a while now. But it is NOT a cause for the "Exception Code c0000005" error.Originally Posted by IceFireDH Go to original post

Edit: Just an fyi, support had me to a base selective startup (IE no pre-loaded programs) and it didn't change anything either.

Some programs can still start up on a bare minimum startup if they are put in as a low level startup program.
Okay now run windows with the bare minimum startup by using "Diagnostic startup" in msconfig then paste me the running programs. I have a hunch. :POriginally Posted by Dimenus88 Go to original post
