Hey when I open "GamerProfile.xml" in notepad/anything else, it's just completely blank. Why would that be? =/
Also, do you happen to know if there is any way to change what resolution farcry 3 launches in out of uplay?
I think that the reason my farcry 3 might be failing to launch is because it may be trying to launch the game in some unsupported low resolution.

Edit: I should also add, when I verify the game cache in steam, there is always 1 file missing. It replaces the file, but then one file is missing again if I do it again straight away. Also, in CCcleaner, when I do the registry cleaner, it finds one problem to correct over and over again, no matter how many times I correct it, the next search brings it up again. =(

    1. The file would be blank or missing if the game doesn't launch properly the 1st time.
    2. That file is where you can change the settings and it should look like this inside it:
Note: This is what My settings are setup in the "GamerProfile.xml" for FC3 so you're welcome to use it but be warned these are the highest settings the game can use!
    Code:

    3. Did you try all of the steps Solution 6 in the 1st post?
    4. And steam always downloads atleast 1 DRM file when ever you verify any game.
    5. What error always shows up in Ccleaner? Take a screenshot please.

Yes! I think I was right. When I copy pasted in your 'gamerprofile' code into my gamerprofile document, the game launched in a bigger window and did not 'stop working' on launch. For some reason my computer seems to hate lower resolutions on games, I have no idea why. Now that it's starting up in the right resolution it appears to be fixed! Thanks so much, I really, really appreciate it. Now that it's launched hopefully it will play fine.

On initial boot, flickering then Far Cry 3 black screen

Hello and first off: thanks to Eternal Core for this thread. I haven't looked around too much for help, but this thread seems to be the best way to get things fixed.

    As for my problem:

I bought Far Cry 3 on the Steam Sale and installed it overnight. Everything is fine with Uplay overlay coming up and entered the key. I notice something is immediately wrong because when the game comes up it starts flickering at the "Ubisoft" logo. If I hit CTRL+ALT+DLT and hit Task Manager to close it, the screen of the game then is fine. But is in windowed mode. Changing it to Full Screen works in options and then hitting play. The game starts and runs through the opening just fine. But once I hit past running from Vaas, the game hit a black screen. And Far Cry 3 has stopped responding.

So, I tried Cause 1: Windows 7/8/vista is attempting to change the visual theme to basic but is unable to change it due to Far Cry 3 Auto Disabling Desktop Composition....

I have seen a pop up before where Windows has tried to change the visual theme, but it has never crashed any of my other games. So I changed the compatibility to XP on both "farcry3.exe" and "farcry3_d3d11.exe"

I went ahead and restarted Steam and my computer to make sure and then went back to Steam and clicked play and got an error at Steam about not being able to start and to make sure the file exists.

So I changed things back and tinkered with my Nvidia settings looking at some other posts and causes. Still nothing. Could I get some help over this way? Thanks in advance!

Oh, and my system: Alienware X-51
    Intel Core i7-3770 @3.4 GHz
    8 GB RAM
    Windows 7 64 bit OS
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 555 GPU

    Edit:

The message I get on Steam after changing compatibility.

Also, drivers that are installed: GeForce GTX 555 Current Drivers: 310.70 (latest drivers)

I've changed the game to DX9 mode and it still crashes. At least this time it's not a black screen crash, the screen just freezes in place and I get a message about my nvidia drivers crashing (I have the latest drivers)

    FIX PLEASE

    Hello guys,

I am having the same problem than the most guys here in the forum.
I bought FC3 with Steam and every time I play the game after some minutes the game crash. I tried all the suggestions that we have on the first post and I did not have success with them.

Today I was tring to play in window mode, and what I can see is that apparently the VGA driver (ATI HD6870) just stop working. In the window mode it seems that after some seconds the Driver just got running again:

But every minute the problem happens again.

In fullscreen mode the Driver do not run again after crash.

I tried a lot of video resolutions.

    edit:

guys I was researching about the problem and I got this link:

    What you think?
