Resolved: Had an interesting situation where in the lead up to Xmas Far Cry 3 worked fine. Got back into the game last week and it wouldn't load at all (from Steam). Went into Control Panel-Admin Tools-Event Viewer and found this error:

Currently have the GTX570 card; so upgraded from Nvidia Driver 310.70 to 310.90 (no change); but if I revert back to 306.97 driver it works fine!
I did, and it dentin help.Originally Posted by EternalCore Go to original post
but I did use steammover to put far cry 3 on my c:\ drive (was on d:\) and now the game runs fine.
thank you. the 1st step (installing directx) is what fixed the issue seeing as everything else was already installed. do you know why? is this a problem with win8?Originally Posted by EternalCore Go to original post
Yes. It's because Windows 7 and 8 do not have directx 9 installed.Originally Posted by nubon Go to original post
I found an older forum thread where someone suggested that you just up your video card's core voltage from 1000 mV to 1100mV. That link references free software to download (MSI Afterburner) and clear instructions. This actually worked for me, and and I haven't seen the problem since. So what is it, up or down? This is stupid- no game should force me to screw around with over/under clocking. Even if this does fix the problem, this still doesn't answer why the devs haven't figured out why these driver crashes are occurring. They certainly look like a bunch of imbeciles not getting to the bottom of the issue and directly addressing them so FC3 runs like every other game on the planet.Well I finally fixed my black screen crash problem for Far Cry 3 and other games as well. I have a Zotac 680 Amp card which is factory over clocked. What I did was use Afterburner to set the power limit to %90 and REDUCE the core clock and memory clock by -25. Fixed everything, game runs on ultra settings no problem.
