Regarding the Uplay avatars, in some ways isn't it good that there is the current 3D characters that we can have? In my opinion they are well designed and rather unique; Ubisoft could have simply used stills from their games after all.
There is also a sense of unity with the current models, though of course widening the selection of preset would be great.
This is not about whether we like the avatars or not, but a complaint about the fact that they coerce us to use it. And it's not that I could simply ignore that, no. If I want to change ANY setting regarding my uplay account, I HAVE to select an avatar first. Can I at least remove it afterwards? NO. They just coerce it on us and then tell others: "look how great it is! everyone is using it!" And even if not, why is nobody able to tell me a reason why this beyond messed up decision has been made???Originally Posted by LegendzX Go to original post
Well, one part of the current discussion is around being able to choose your own avatars as an alternative to completely deleting the Uplay avatars. I was noting that while we don't have access to this, the system offered right now is not a bad one. It's more unique than most (take for example the PlayStation Network avatars) and I think it's neat how they are more than just preset images.Originally Posted by pandabrain Go to original post
The point about having to use an avatar - perhaps this is just to better promote one of the more innovative features of Uplay (the 3D avatars) and encourage players to have a look around the site. It adds a bit of colour to your profile and at the moment you can save and choose between 3 avatars or so?
Hello WakeXT,
Technically you can access the Uplay website without selecting one. If you go directly to any sub-section of the website like the account section or your game library rather than heading to the dashboard, you can manage any aspect of your account and still side-step the requirement to select an avatar.
With that said, I disagree with the assertion that they are abominations. The avatar system gives you a variety of options when it comes to choosing how you'd like others to see you in Uplay and in game.
I appreciate the answer.Originally Posted by Ubi-Leorthian Go to original post
While I did already notice that sub-sections of the site work if you browse them directly, it doesn't change the fact that uplay.ubi.com gets completely locked which to me seems very user-unfriendly.
And on the second part: Yes, it's very much a matter of taste. Mine it is not.
I'd prefer the ability to freely upload image files to select an avatar (or none at all) of your own choice, but I understand such things have to be monitored and need a robust reporting system in case any "offending" or even illegal images get used. Though other competing platforms larger than Uplay and your very own Ubisoft-forums manage this just fine, since most users won't risk their account or even just different user privileges like posting/commenting rights as the majority seems to be keen to avoid punishment.
i have to agree here!
Im playing The Crew at present and i see people cruising around with flag avatars etc....and there is my icon with the crappy 3d balls up that is the uplay; lets treat our gamers like nintendo Mii's!!
its awful! Truly so!
Im a mature gamer...i have no wish on earth to have a 3d avatar that looks like its jumped straight out of the latest nintendo game!
there should , at the very least, be an option to have plain location flags or simple avatars direct from game graphics.
Hey,
i really must say these avatars are annoying and i do hope you will give us more options on this one. If not our own chosen avatars, but at least the option to show a blank picture or delete the avatar all together. That you force us into choosing one in the first place is incredibly annoying. I am actually so angry about this....so much time i spent on trying to fix that damned avatar thing, that i am not gonna make a purchase in the uplay store today which i was keen on doing before i encountered this avatar dilemma. Please don't alienate your customers. There is a noticable difference between 'moderation' and a straightjacket. So i kindly ask your design team to at least give us the option to delete or show a blank avatar. Thx.
