I think like you, those avatar are useless, I want to have MY icon in the crew. every time I see the uplay avatar, I say: "OMG, WHY ?"Originally Posted by Antimasterplan Go to original post
Hey, guys, I was just passing by and thought maybe I can share a quick tip with y'all while Uplay staff are «collecting feedback».
The thing is you can make some of those 3D models to sit or bend down and then take a snapshot of the white space appeared at the one of the top corners.
While you're in-game the background of those avatars is becoming transparent so that should do it.
Here is my profile for a demo. I've used the bad guy from Far Cry 3.
I know it's stupid but it will keep your stomach happy.
Hello Gassolini,
Thank you for contacting us. Uplay avatars can be created through the Uplay website, just head to the profile section of the Uplay Website and select EDIT AVATAR. There is however no way to upload your own one no.
This isnt a Kindergarden, please just add a function to upload your own avatar, ITS NOT HARD, i DID SOMETHING LIKE THIS ON MY SITE AFTER 30 MINUTES ( I have no knowledge whatsoever about HTML / Javascript etc ) SO PLEASE, THIS ISNT A KINDERGARDEN, SO DONT BEHAVE LIKE WE ARE!
You are correct.Originally Posted by BlueTheFurry Go to original post
This isn't kindergarten, so please try to avoid using huge font and so much CAPS. That's not going to help anyone.
Unfortunately, It's not a case of it being easy or hard to do. It's simply a design choice we have chosen to make.
We've heard that some people don't like it and we will of course take that feedback into consideration. A change like what you suggest however (in the event that we decide to make it) won't simply happen overnight, just because you can do it on your website in 30 minutes with no knowledge.
I'll go out on a limb here and say there's probably a considerable difference in user base size between your website and the millions upon millions of users Uplay has? Not to mention that Uplay is using a completely unique profile system and supporting back end... rather than say, a pre-existing plug and play profile/forum platform that one can install on their website.
There's also moderation to consider and likely where moderation is needed, you don't have many to deal with. We on the other hand not only care about it, but would be legally required to do so, and there would be a LOT of moderation to deal with. A system to efficiently moderate that as well as the time needed to do so would also need to be created and integrated into the tool set so that it can be carried out.
When all is said and done, a custom avatar option would be a nice feature, but is probably going to be considered after we've made more critical changes to Uplay as a whole, so it might be some time before we see this option added, but who knows

I understand your point but there are ways to outsource this. A lot of companies use gravatar.com, origin and epic (unreal engine guys) for example. But uplay had a working system before and the way they changed it to is just messed up. Because there is no good reason for NOT allowing people to have no profile picture at all. And everybody who still has no profile picture never tried to change an account setting, because you have to chose an avatar before their website even unlocks the option to change settings for your account.Originally Posted by Ubi-Cain Go to original post
"after we've made more critical changes to Uplay" Are you planning on forcing even more stuff on us? Being able to choose to NOT use uplay would be a welcome change, have you ever considered that or are you too busy pushing out games with overpriced preorder DLCs before the base game is finished?
There are several avenues that we could consider should we choose to change the avatar system. Gravatar could very well be one of them and it's certainly something I'll be passing on if we go down that routeOriginally Posted by pandabrain Go to original post
Forcing... No.Originally Posted by pandabrain Go to original post
More stuff... Definitely.
The option to NOT use Uplay is currently not on the table though... and we don't have any intentions of putting it on there any time soon. (Just to lay that one to rest)
Additionally I can't really comment in regards to "pushing out" games as that's not my thing. The team I work with is the Uplay PC team and we're responsible for making the Uplay client
That doesn't include making the games that are being sold, setting their release dates, releasing DLCs, or performing game updates. Those are managed by a separate group and the studios making the games themselves. So in that regard, we (here on the Uplay team) don't do any of the things you're suggesting we do.
Just in case you didn't know, seeing as you;re posting this on the Uplay forum... which is here for discussion relating to Uplay

Thanks for taking the time to answer my.... rage.Originally Posted by Ubi-Cain Go to original postI'm glad you have the time to value my input.
But you are seeking answers where rhetorical or no questions where asked.
Well, hard to tell where ubisofts departmets start and end since bad decisions are made all over the place so there seems to be a lowest common denominator across ubisoft afterall. And I don't think i should start a thread about reasons to hate ubisoft, no one would have time to read that. So it has to come out in small portions on similar places.
Back to the topic: The avatar thing reminds me of the corsair trampstamp logo situation. Man, they changed their logo back quickly. Both have in common, that there must be this one guy, who said "yeah, that's a good idea, let's do that" and everyone else just thinks "oh my god, why would someone do that? is this happening?"....
And, oh, ok, forced might be the wrong word but I don't get to choose either, and as long as ubisoft owns the license for a specific title the developer is not to blame also.
So, let's call it "no freedom of choice". But as you said it wont change anyway.
