That's the ways I reads it. Too much money wasted already on a game selling for $10 on Amazon, nobody flying it online and no fan base to supprt any further development. They should let the fans have it and hope they can do something with it.

I guess the Il-2 series is probably going to go with ROF's pay to play system where you pay extra for new content. I don't really like that system but people seem to not mind it with ROF. I guess the alternative is more like Il-2 where you start out with a few planes and release "expansion packs" which are basically just DLC's for cash.

I'm curious, I have a Steam version of Clod, If I was able to land the Disc version could I play the original version of it?
I'm only considering it, because my machine back then could not do it. And Now I have one that should.
I'd like to see the original version.

The disk version is more or less the steam version. I'm not sure, but some of the disk versions may have had the v1.0 files on them, however you'd have to make sure that Steam was set to not automatically update CoD, delete the local game files then re-install them from the disk (if they're truly there on any version) to have any chance of getting back to the first version.

How likely is it we will be able to play CLOD offline 1,2 or 3 years down the line?

For offline, highly likely, the only DRM is the steam stuff and steam's not going anywhere. Additionally, Steam has an offline mode. Online longevity I'm not not going to venture an opinion on.

I don't know if that will work.
I tried a lot of way to get the old version running, but before you can play it first time, you have to go online to activate it with steam. The first thing steam does is to update to the lates official version. It won't let you play until it's up to date. Only after that you can play offline.

I finally got an earlier version going some time ago and it's day and night. We lost a lot of beauty in the process, but obviously, they fixed a lot of broken things.

So where do flight simmers go now? I haven't flow Il-2 in a long while because I got tired of fighting my inadequate computer to get a barely flyable sim, and I wasn't in a position to upgrade. I will be upgrading in the new year and one of my criteria is being able to run something like CloD now and whatever might come up in the next 2-5 years. What other sims, if any, are out there that I could look at to figure out how much computer I'm looking at?
    Thanks
