So here is my situation along with the many other users on here that have stuttering issues in game.
You can see my specs in my sig so I won't retype them here.
Initially I had very poor performance - 15-30 FPS from the start. I then updated my nVidia drivers to the latest beta (310.70 as of last night) and used the Far Cry 3 SLi profile and disabled the Uplay overlay. That gave the performance I was looking for - 60FPS @1080p with Vsync on and most if not all settings on High to Very High. Things were looking good up until I was able to free roam. I took my first shot with the 1911 at a target right at the beginning of the first Tower mission and then the FPS just dropped to around 30, which normally wouldn't be a big deal but it was stuttering and not seemingly normal 30fps (I don't know how to explain it otherwise). When I looked away from that target, FPS goes back to 60 and is very smooth. I even tried Ultra Settings just to see if performance would drop significantly...same outcome - 60FPS most of the time and the random drops here and there.
Continuing on that Tower mission the FPS was 60 all the way to the top of the tower. Looking in any direction didn't affect my FPS until I got to the 'control box'. Looking directly at that box my FPS dropped to 30 or below again. Look to the left or right of it....60FPS. Then came the first hunting mission. 60FPS all the way to the mission area. Collected the plants and then went to kill the boars. Whenever I looked at the boars....another FPS drop. The next mission when you have to take your first base....again 60 FPS until the firefight started. After the firefight FPS went to normal. At that point I was in between missions and decided to muck around a bit and saw a wild pig in the middle of the road. Whenever I looked at the pig, FPS drop. Killed the pig and looked away from it, normal FPS....looked back at it....FPS drop.
I'm not sure what's going on here but something isn't right with this performance. I get 60FPS where I would think it should drop and severe FPS drops when....looking at a pig...or other seemingly insignificant items that you wouldn't think would cause a performance issue.
As a side note, whenever this fps drop would occur I watched my GPU usage and both cards dropped to 25-45% usage at the exact times when this happened.
It's a beautiful game and runs great....75% of the time. I am at work and can not try out different settings until I get home but I will try to lower post FX and see if that makes any difference (along with some of the other tweaks I have seen on the forums).
A little update:
So I noticed today that the microstuttering usually only happens when I shoot something. The bulletin board next to the parked jeep at the first base ou take I can look at with a full 60FPS. As soon as I shoot it, whenever I look at it the FPS drops to 30 with stuttering. Same deal when looking at the jeep - at first all is normal....as soon as I take a shot at it whenever I look at the jeep fps is down to 30 again. Not sure if it's a memory leakage deal that maybe has to do with decals (bullet holes) or not but there is certainly an issue that needs to be dealt with.
I have changed post fx to low and that makes no difference. I did change to DX9 and that seemed to take care of it...mostly. I do sense a very tiny bit of stuttering but it's not enough to complain about honestly. And I do not notice a degradation of graphical quality in DX9 either. Maybe there is no DOF but then again I can live without it.
Hey Dude,
You described my issue EXACTELY!
Its "good" to see i am not alone.
Our rigs are very similar, i have same CPU but 560ti in SLI, with latest nvidia beta drivers.
- Same thing happens to me, the issue i can describe is - whenever there is shooting / physics related action, i get this weird "rubber banding" lag its like you have trouble following your cross hair or such, hard to aim. Other than that runs crazy awesome.
Now some questions for you -
1. Do you have vsync on? Did you try forcing adaptive vsync from nvidia CP?
2. Do you have pre rendered frames enabled?
3. Do you have MSI afterburner running on the background? (i do
I tried played without vsync and it seems to run way better, the only thing is my cards are overheating 70C+ with fan doing into overdrive, i hate it.
I will try enabling frame limiting to 70 FPS to begin with when i get back from work.
Keep me posted, i will as well.
1: I do have vsync on but I did not force it in the nvidia CP. I will try that.Originally Posted by Dr3thepooner Go to original post
2: I do have the prerender frames set to 1. Changing that made no difference for me.
3: I don't have MSI afterburner.
One thing I am going to try is to push the physics rendering to the CPU in the nvidia CP under SLi setup.
Hey dude, just in case you didnt find how to solve random SLI drops here it is -
