Can you swim from the first island to the second island?

I read on another forum that if you try to swim to the second island before you unlock it, you get a warning and then are teleported back to the shore
Once you unlock the second island, can you freely swim between the two islands?

Also, how long is an ingame day and is it harder for enemies to see you at night?

    thanks

let me clarify a bit more. If you played AC Revelations, remember how Constantinople had the big river separating the East and West parts of the city? And to get from one to the other, you had to take a ferry, there was a little cutscene and you'd be across the river? Even though the other part of the city was so close and the player could have easily swam across?
So does FC3 basically do the opposite of that and allow the player to swim to either island once unlocked without being stopped by automatic shark attack after a certain distance or an invisible wall or teleportation?

And anyone know about the other questions? Haven't seen one post or thread regarding those mechanics

All I can say is I went out swimming for sharks towards what appeared to be an island and got that message and was teleported not back to shore but back in the water where I came from. Haven't unlocked the other island though so don't know more.

As for day night cycle it seems to be actually quite short, I'd say about a half hour day tops, and enemies do not see as well in the dark.

I think that is correct as i was trying to swim to a small island next to the second island and i ran into a warning screen that gave me 5 seconds to turn back.

you are able to swim to the second island, once you did the mission where you have to wingsuit your way in the island, but after that you are able to swim, boat,or drive to the island

Yep, it's ALL open once you unlock the second Island, seamless drifting back and forth across the sea
