Hi,
I have only been on this forum for about 5 minutes and it is very frustrating how people come on here cursing, abusing, criticizing instead of actually trying to actively HELP to solve the issue! Instead of yelling abuse ACTUALLY help the dev's help YOU!
I know crashes can be frustrating but you have to realize... There are thousands of different PC configurations... only two main console ones. It is very difficult to create something that stable across all on release, especially when you have an engine as complex as Far Cry 3's. Keeping in mind that I am much more likely to look into the video card drivers for crashing, particularly if it doesn't happen with everyone (which it doesn't) and it's a BSOD.
I haven't had one single crash, only a few small bugs (most of which are graphical/script based). Which I will report to the dev's when I find the most direct and effective way possible. Although I have experience in programming, so I know how frustrating/complex it can be, doesn't mean I'm the only one that can show some respect and try and help. You only have to look at the post counts and around to see how many more people will probably buy this on console. Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of developers actually made a loss on the PC version revenue vs. costs.
Now, yes at it's core the game is somewhat a console port, however remember it is still based on the DUNIA 2 engine (a stable, proven engine). Which again, leads me to believe that driver issues are more likely.
What you can do:
- Clean and Legit Far Cry 3 Installation (if you don't pay for it, how do you expect Dev Companies to exist?)
- Update Far Cry 3 v1.01
- Updated Video Card Drivers (Current BETA's have optimizations for FC3)
- Turn off Virus Scanners during gaming (sounds stupid but I can't even begin to remember the amount of times this has been the issue, I don't even question why anymore.)
- Be careful of BOTH CPU and GPU overclocked/voltage settings. FC3 is the only game that I've tested (even 3DMark '11 etc) that actually gets my system very close to stress test temperatures.
- Disable HDMI Sound/On-Board Sound Card if you aren't using it (it has been known to crash certain games with certain drivers etc)
- Try lowest settings first, if the game is stable THEN commence to try and cook your graphics card
- Ensure you Catalyst users have the NET 4 Framework version (as it's working flawless for me, worth a shot)
- Try disabling V-Sync but it works fine for me on/off when enabled in CCC
- Ensure DEFAULT settings in graphics drivers.
- See if it makes a difference with uPlay in OFFLINE MODE (When the servers crashed it caused my game to hang for a little bit)
- Reduce any unneeded applications from running in the background/experiment with changes.
If it still does it now, then write up a polite post or email to ubi support with as MUCH information as possible. This will help them rectify the issue and quickly... the more emails they get... the more statistics the devs get... the more likely they are to see patterns and be able to make changes sooner. Often it can be something that is overlooked simply due to lack of information, such as a particular sound chip, drivers or custom settings on your video card.
A good start to a template would be:
- Complete system specs (CPU, M/B, GFX, Sound Card etc)
- Graphics/Sound Driver Version
- Any custom settings that you deem relevant. (ie. forced V-Sync, AA or Triple Buffering etc)
- Any particular scene/action/part in the game which it does it often/without fail.
- What specifically you are experiencing, ie. If it's a BSOD (give the error code), crashing, textures missing, glitching, freezing system or just game.
I am having ZERO issues, haven't crashed once or had any major glitches at all, so I will post my specs anyway... If someone has a similar system to me and getting crashes, then this could point out the culprit.
Far Cry 3 Insane Edition RETAIL (AUS)

- Video Settings: HBAO, AA Off, DX11, ALL TEXTURES on MAXIMUM (Fps ranges from low 40's to high 50's)
My game at the moment is suffering from a little Micro stutter, but am waiting to see if the next driver release/app profiles/far cry update fixes it before I pass judgment.
Don't forget guys as PC Gamers, we get a k/b mouse (i find the controls in the game easily usable, more options than console), we get HBAO, more detailed textures (in some cases), shadows and dynamic light. Don't forget PC is awesome, the origin of FPS and Far Cry.
ALSO don't reply in this thread with something that is derogatory towards me or the dev's. I have programming experience and have been playing video games on PC since before Unreal Tournament, CS and even DOOM. If for some reason the irrational and uncontrolled portion of your brain; controls you. Then book a trip with an ambulance, because you're going to the burn unit. :P
P.S If ANYONE knows where I can send a detailed bug report to the dev's in a more direct manner. Meet me in the alley adjacent to the entrance of Citra's CastleOR... Just shoot me a message, lol.
I apologize for spelling/structure, but it is 5am and I have been up since 9am and playing Far Cry since about 6pm. xD
I think it is more the disjointed community management / communication from Ubisoft.
Between Ubisofts Twitter, steampowered forums, steam's new forums, these forums, and random online gaming websites there is zero clear lines of communication. What SHOULD happen, is everything should direct the user to here (or somewhere) and there should be a stickied "BUG REPORT" thread like ever other major PC release... which would then have the post format as per OP proposed and they'd start collecting bugs. Instead we just get the same complaints in 100 different threads... when 1 of those 100 has the problem solved already... rather than a stickied list compiling previously reporting bugs and their associated fixes and that Ubi have added it to their bug list... this will obviously all come in the following days but it currently looks very messy and I find it completely pointless that the Ubi forum management just direct you to support tickets for Steam / uPlay rather than trying to solve the problems here when they are usually trivial issues that have been solved already.
Basically... bad communication = your game looks bad. Bad forum management of repeated threads and not making things look like there is any sort of control = things get totally out of hand and people start just shouting and whinging in their posts as they can't see any logic going on, so they resort to making the most noise in the hopes of a response.
It's GR:FS all over again, Ubi went dark for days at a time saying the patch would be up tomorrow but then wouldn't arrive for a week after that. And as for your comment about the support tickets, that's the answer to everything and those things take forever to get replyed to, and if they do there's no guarantee that it's going to be what you want to hear. I love the game but this feels like deja'vu from GR:FS for me and I was hoping this would not be a repeat of that.Originally Posted by yogiisaknight Go to original post
Microstutter is something that is filtered out through the combination of game patches and driver updates over time unfortunately... It's not uncommon for it to be related to bugs in 3rd party software Ubisoft have utilized in the game itself. I wouldn't expect the game to come close to what the end performance will be for another month or two at least. A lot of games have these issues. Although I have seen it on a friends setup FX-8350 @ 4.5GHz, xFire 6950's with Ultra/HBAO/2AA and No Microstutter. He did run a RadeonPro profile with double V-Sync on though which was capping it at 60fps. So I'm not sure what FPS it was actually capable of; probably not much higher really.
I have noticed one thing, (Microstutter excluded)... for a game that has relatively intense and live AI (open world etc), HBAO and quite eye catching textures... the frame rates are stable. Even on my system, the frame rates rarely drop below 40fps even in the most flame, explosion, AI infested vegetation and water scene on ULTRA (MAX). My 7870 OC is far from a beast.
I'm hoping there is potential not only rid microstutter completely but get at least another 30%+ out of driver and game optimizations as I would really like to run 4AA on this game. I can run 2AA but the frame rate, although quite playable, leaves a little to be desired when it comes to smoothness. In realism I wouldn't bet on much more than a 10-15% improvement in the near future. Heck, even Battlefield 3 JUST got a 15-25% performance boost in this Catalyst Beta, BF3 was released October(??) last year!
As long as their crossfire profile/optimizations allow for no microstutter (even if you have to run 2x V-Sync) and at least 70-80% scaling. I'll be happy. I already have a second card on the way anyway. If crossfire looks to be ordinary, I'll just sell it to a friend and wait for a 8870/8950.
When I was coding the gamemode/admin/anti-cheat for my old SA-MP server years ago, I coded a /bug command which sent me an email (with freeze frame data, could only do it twice a day from the same IP) although I was very OCD when it came to bugs/releases so I didn't have many bugs/reports, however the few that I did get, helped a lot. Of course, nothing compared to the scale of an entire game. Similar principal though. However, simply put, the market is not there, the money is not there. PC gaming industry is dying (mainly FPS/TPS; RPG's/Strategy games are still strong). Consoles cost less (esp. in the long run), are MUCH "easier" to use to the "average Joe" and allow for easier development of games and more concentrated/effective marketing.Originally Posted by yogiisaknight Go to original post
Explaining the behavioral patterns of average human beings may explain why, it doesn't excuse it. If ubisoft aren't paying attention to the forums... then you are wasting your time/keystrokes. No matter how abusive, insulting or how many words you capitalize no one useful is going to see it anyway. Better to be civil in these situations. OR if you are truly upset, call support or email and say you are asking for a refund. So at least then if all the dissatisfied customers (for legitimate reasons) let them know in volume, then they will act.
When you state such things, please explain why or you will not be taken seriously...Originally Posted by kurtfryer Go to original post
