    O/T Left Knee

Well folks, it's now been a week since I had the left knee replaced, so I figured I'd better do an update.
Surgery was Wednesday and this knee looks to be more of a pain than the right. Hospital stay was pretty rough, pain just wouldn't ease and got to point where they put me on morphine with a self controlled button. Every ten minutes I could give myself a dose. Helped some, but not as much as I thought it would. Finally made it thru the night and was looking forward to a turkey lunch and the Lions game. Well they didn't serve turkey at all and the Lions managed to screw up the game so my Thanksgiving stunk until my wife brought a turkey plate from home. Pain levels eased just enough by Friday, so they dischraged me that afternoon. Now I'm at home, dealing with the walker, therapy and so forth again. Not sure yet whether this one is going to go faster or slower than the right knee as the right is still not up to strength yet, so i'm having to use the left more than normal to compensate and it doesn't like that. Todays therapy went fairly well, but I think she wanted to see where it was at more than doing any real work. Next session is Friday, so we'll see.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksiving and are doing well.

    Good luck!
Are you doing therapy at home as well as with a therapist?

I've been doing home therapy since the surgery. That ends this week and I start out-patient therapy next week. This knee is already doing better as far as motion goes. It's still giving me a lot of painful stiffness at night, so I'm still having trouble getting sleep. We'll see how the out-patient workouts go.

I went through that crap when I was 11 in 1958. Therapy was just trying to bend it. Bend it until it hurt.
In hospital they kept me higher than a kite on morphine, until I stopped it.
    That and penicillin.
I didn't break it, I laid it wide open on a cinder road. That is what happens when you try to use your knee as brakes.

Knee is progressing well according to the therapist. My range of motion is quite good but the tightness and stiffness is still an issue. Don't have a lot of pain, except during therapy when they push it to the limits, but even that is improving. And even tho most everyone says cold won't affect the artificial knees, right now it is. They both are complaining about the cold, maybe only because they are so recent. By this time next year it may not be an issue.

Everyone take care and have a safe and happy new year.
