    Il2 1946 and Windows 7 64bit compatability

My CD version of IL2 1946 won't work on my new pc: Windows 7 64bit Premium and Radion 6870 card.
It loads and runs the opening video sequence but hangs when it gets to the Pilot Roster/Main Menu. The mouse also freezes. The resolution is also affected as I can only see the top left corner of the menu as the size of the picture is so large.

I've tried running in Compatability Mode and as Administrator with no luck. I also tried loading it in its own folder outside of Program Files.

I know some people have done it so it must be possible.

    Help would be appreciated

Run the setup utility in the game folder, it's called either il2setup.exe or setup.exe Win7 will probably prompt asking if you wan the utility to be allowed to change settings, respond Yes/OK.
On the Driver tab of the utility, make sure that the resolution selected is the same as or smaller than your monitor max resolution.

Thanks for your comments Tully, much appreciated.

I tried downloading from Setup.exe but it made no difference.

I have, however, stumbled on the answer, and it was so simple:

In the Compatability Screen I ticked the box, "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings"

I'm amazed. Everything is working beautifully. Just hope the updating to version 4.09 goes well.

Look forward to joining you all on Hyperlobby. (Maybe you can point me in the right direction)

    Cheers, Bulls-eye

    Move/Copy your /IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/ to c:/Games

Make new shortcuts to il2fb.exe and/or il2setup.exe/il2set.exe as needed.

If you have an international version (that needs the DVD in the drive during play) update SecuROM DRM to the 64 bit version (see sticky Windows FIX in the forum index)

Run il2setup.exe (or il2set.exe) to configure IL-2 for your hardware.

Windows 7 is paranoid about protecting files under any type of /Program Files folder... You need to move IL-2 out from under it because il-2 needs read/write access to several files windows tries to protect.

You also need to update SecuROM to the 64 bit version as the 32 bit version will not work correct.

Don't forget to install any patches to the new location under c:/Games/ (location can be anywhere as long as it is not under /Program Files/ /Program Files (x86)/ etc. etc.)

    Good Luck!

Current version is 4.11.1m with 4.12m coming (hopefully this year)
