I've been having one aggravating issue all day: random crashes to the desktop in single-player (haven't tried multi-player yet). On my machine, the game runs fast and fluid at almost maxed-out settings (AA set to normal) but will at random points just close to the desktop in the space of about a second with the only error message being the usual and unhelpful "Assassin's Creed 3 has stopped working" shown by Windows. Uplay always seems to think that the game closed gracefully and displays window showing the summary of achievements earned. The time it takes for the crash-to-desktop to occur ranges from 2 minutes to 3 hours, and only occurs when actually in-game (menu never has a problem) and occurs regardless of whether I'm playing as Connor or Desmond.
My hardware:
HP ENVY 15 Laptop (mid 2012 model)
- Intel Core i7 3610QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
- 6gb DDR3 RAM
- AMD Radeon 7750m (installed drivers are Catalyst 12.11 Beta 8, released 11/15, latest available)
- Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
- Game installed via Steam
Also crashing to desktop in single-player. Runs for about 5 seconds to a few minutes at time then AC3SP.exe has stopped responding. Like cullensadler, I too am running on Catalyst 12.11 Beta 8 drivers. I think that is the culprit here. I didn't have any problems until after I restarted for the first time since the installation of the game. That's too bad, since the Beta 8 drivers were giving much better performance than the other drivers. I hope there's a patch or driver fix soon from either side to address this issue.
Anyone else experiencing a bug where Assassin's Creed III inexplicably crashes at random points in the game?
I picked it up today after preordering sometime in June, and played through as far as getting to Boston as Haytham without a problem, but since then the game has crashed for seemingly no reason and taken my computer down with it over and over and over again. It started doing it the moment that I was set loose in the city to head to the general store at my leisure; I tried to climb a building and the game crashed as soon as I leaped off. It started doing that at certain other points, be it if I looked at the shopkeeper in the general store from the wrong angle, and eventually seemed to be avoidable if I figured out a particular camera angle from a particular position that I could completely avoid, but then the game even started crashing during cutscenes. Also, this seems to happen at random, and I've made it out of the city proper (following the Green Dragon Inn scene) and it still continues. Is this an issue with my computer, or an actual bug? If it is a bug, will it be addressed in a patch anytime soon?
The glitch itself is characterized by a sudden complete freeze of the visuals. Ambient noise continues briefly, as does the last line of dialogue if it happens during a cutscene. Then the screen shuts off and I get a few seconds of staticky buzz and then nothing. Once this happens, my computer becomes completely unresponsive and I can't even access the task manager to manually shut the game off, and have to shut my computer down via the power button.
I've already tried uninstalling the game and reinstalling it, and it doesn't seem to have helped at all. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I just had a hard lock up in Boston, after talking with Franklin in the general store when I went to exit it just froze up. Coudn't even ctrl alt del, had to hard boot.
I also have been getting constant random crashing in Boston. It seems Boston is the main culprit for it, as I was able to do the theater/ship area's without a single crash alt the way through, but once in Boston I am lucky to get 2-3 minutes in without it crashing.
Even once I got to the first Fort mission you do shortly after arriving in Boston it didn't crash the entire mission. However once I was out and back in Boston, bam, crashing crashing crashing.
Running on an Nvidia 580 (factory oc'd). AT first I wasn't even able to play the game as the display driver would crash out at the first in-game cutscene, but lowering the oc back to stock let it work , cept til Boston at least.
Have tried the 306 series drivers, 310.54, 310.61, it occurs in all of them.
Same problem here .... serious lags in the city and crowdy areas..... the optimizing has been really really bad ... really disappointing.... hope they will work on a fix....

I have two problems after finishing the Capitan Kidd's treasure's missions. The first problem is that the ring doesn't always work. The second is that when I do a fast travel I always recive a notification: Eden fruit achieved (I hope I've written it correctly)
Thank you for the attention
PS: I'm on Ps3
I am also receiving heavy artifacts and popping when I run in heavy snow. This only seems to occur in the woods, when I am trudging through the thick snow and leaving a trail. The artifacting occurs in the snow directly around me.
I am using Windows 7 64bit, Nvidia 570's (SLI), and Intel i-7-2600k CPU
