Does IL2 programming make use of the CUDA Cores in video cards or was that not even a consideration way back then?
I don’t know much about CUDA Cores in video cards other that it is a factor I look at when looking at there specs. If it does not pertain to IL2 programming I will pay less attention to it.
Thanks
Simple answer? CUDA does not figure in IL2.Originally Posted by gothkrieger Go to original post

More vRAM appears to help in games such as Rise of Flight - and may do so in the later versions of 46, such as 4.12, HSFX 6 and so on. Seriously high-spec cards' performances won't necessarily be shown up in FB, as the game's 'engine' can't relate to many of the extra optimisations & features. If you do only fly IL2-46, then the leading edge is not what you need in order to play the game successfully - apart from anything else it's insanely expensive.
That said, I still like to stay up near the edge, such as it was a year or two back. To that end, I watch the second-hand columns of eBay for good bargains. My last three cards - a 1Gb Radeon 5870, a 2GB Radeon 5870 and a 2GB Radeon 6950 - were eBay items and have all been kept in excellent condition. In fact, the only problem I've ever had with a new purchase was an Asus EAH 4890. The ****ed thing died just outside of the supplier's warranty and then I discovered a lot of info about Asus' RMA policy - all of it negativeIt's still on a shelf somewhere....
FB-wise though - I don't see a lot of difference between the 1Gb 5870 and the 6950. In fact, the cheap OCUK 4890 that I bought as a replacement for the ASUS was a strong contender too
I'm sorry about all these ramblings, especially as they only relate to Radeon cards. (I'm too old to start learning how nVidia software works!) For the red one I stick with keeping a model or two away from that edge, in time - and avoid dual-core cards altogether. Using eBay and PayPal gives protection against rip-offs, much better than Asus RMA!

Goth,
Spend at least $125.00 and you'll be good. A GTX 550ti is right around there and will do all you need for 46'. If you can afford more do it, but IL-2 is an old game and doesn't need allot. On my old Dell P4 with an ASUS 3450 and TH2go with 3 screens at 3840 X 1024I was getting 20 -30fps with Perfect Scenery. Not great but a pretty cheap setup.
P.S. Goth, There's finally pics of 6 screens in the use4renders thread.
I was actually considering that very card till I looked in my case and saw there would be a space issue (too long).
I have a Geforce GTX 650 OC, 2 GB onn order for about the same money as the above card. It has a shorter lenght, only 187mm so will fit just nicely. Hope it runs IL2 with good clarity and good frames, it should. I am also hoping it would run CoD as well. It is paired up with a i7 2700 processor, it just might be enough, maybe!!
Had a look at pics, nice!!
I should say it should, I'm running a GTX460 and in really flies running IL2.Originally Posted by gothkrieger Go to original post
