Hi guys. Need your help.
I have SH5 installed and had no problems with installation from a purchased retail disc.
Read about SH4 and same set up, retail disc.installed it and it ran ok to start with. That is to say, video film intro with poetry started and ran ok.
However, that's as far as it's got. After the intro video I have a blank screen with background sound and no video. No options menu,no start up scree
I have downloaded patch 4, still no difference.
With SH5 it just installed it's self into c: windows programs x86 and download the appropriate up to date patch
SH4 has done the same except that I had to go looking for a patch.
have I done something incorrectly?
System is: dell XPS420. Ram: 8GB. graphics: Nividia GT 8800 GT.

I would reinstall outside of the default path for one. But thats not your problem. Do you have Directx 9.0 also?

SH4 has a strange bug to it. It will only run with directx 9. It will not work on a later version. I suggest re-installing in it's own directory, and when the program prompts for directx 9 install, go ahead and do it. I believe the install program will ask if you want to continue because there is a more recent version.

nvrsummer2: may I clarify what do you mean reinstall "outside of the default path". Where do I install the program? It installed itself to it's present position.
fireftr18; by the same token, "reinstall in it's own directory"?

mothie2011 Welcome.

You could try removing the intro movie and see if it will work for you.

The Intro movie is located in -
'Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Movies\Intro'.
In the Intro folder is a file called Intro.wmv - delete or remove this file.

The posters above what you to install the game in any main folder other then Program Files (86). I made a main folder called Games and installed SH4 there. C:\Game\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific.

Hi Guys.
Reinstalled the game. put on 9.0c x. Updated to version 4:4 from existing version 3. No change whatsoever even with new folder setup on C:\Game Silent Hunter 4.wolves of the pacific. It starts immediately,runs perfectly through video intro then goes to black screen with music in background. No continuation. As though waiting for something. Totally baffled!

Since you removed the introduction movie what does it do when you try starting it up?

Have you tried running the game before adding the update patch?

Since you bought this retail is the SH4, Silent Hunter IV Wolfs of the Pacific or Silent Hunter IV with U-boat Missions?

Have you tried updating your video card drivers?
