    Last Rites/Death Cert?!

Im thinkin of declaring this forum dead in 24 hours -no posts in 3 days -sad to see it go -have been here since at least 2004 .I think Choctaw hit the nail on the head when he said at one stage you could find out just about ANYTHING here .Anyone got a defibrillator!?

Yup. Sadly, it has almost shuffled off its mortal coil, or whatever forums do when they cease to function. Anyone wanting advice on IL-2 'classic' or CloD' is better off at the banana forums (or possibly SimHQ), and those wanting off-topic banter with any old hands here that are still about will likewise mostly either find them on the RoF one (a friendly place, though Jason quite rightly puts his foot down if people start speculating about 777 Studio's alleged links with the Mafia ), or at the banana one (where our old friend Raaaid is a beacon of sanity, relatively speaking )- though I'm currently banned from the latter for failing to pay my membership dues to the Michigan Militia or something.

I come here most days to see if there is a question I can answer or a topic which appeals to me. It certainly brings some relief from the high dudgeon and general nastiness of the banana forum, especially the CLOD section. This is more like a rest home, where I see a few familiar handles and reminisce on the great days of IL2.

I personally would hate to see it go. Even when I stopped flying for about 2 years I still came here daily. It's like a habit I can't shake.

If the Cheerleader thread was resurrected then there might be more traffic

It pains me to say it, but it seems that, yes, we are indeed witness to the end to what was one of the great places of the internet.
I learned so many interesting things here, and communicated with such a variety of (mostly) good people. It really is shame that it is all over now, even though the modded game goes on,
At its peak, topics would stay on the main page for a day at most, any question at all - game or flight or otherwise - what was happening, was acceptable, though the huge debates they often caused were just part of it.

Well, if the forum is to go, it might as well go out with a bang - how about some Peruvian proto-punk from 1965?

    a) We all eagerly awaited CLOD, thinking it would be another fine Oleg product, and then it comes out as quite a dud and still hasn't really been fixed. That turned off a lot of people who were basically coming here only out of anticipation for CLOD, and waited for about 2 or 3 years on it.
    b) This site...gah. It was perfectly fine before, and now it's just really bad looking. It's marginally modernized with stuff that isn't essential, and the tiny text and apparent inability of Ubi to let you automatically log into a website in 2012 is really offputting. Make your site a pain in the butt to use and people won't want to use it.

Flying Il-2 still requires a comittment that other games don't--getting your settings right, putting up with stuff like TIR being annoying, etc. By this point I feel like I got plenty of hours of joy out of Il-2 and I just don't really feel the urge to fire her up again. I'll probably sell my pedals and stick especially if I end up teaching abroad like I'm trying to.
