Installing new video card question
I am planning on installing a new video card and I have a question I would like to ask before I go any further.
Basically I have a Pentium 4 system with Win XP 32 bit.
I will be removing my existing card but the new card will require me to move the next card over one slot because the heatsink on new card will require that.
The card I have to move is my RangeMax NEXT Wireless Adapter for my wireless internet connection.
I am prepped for what I have to do to install the new card but not on the implications of moving the Wireless Adapter card over a slot. What I am concerned is that things are configured for the slot that it is in and if I move it I will lose the use of the card without having to manually reconfigure it.
So the question is, is my concern correct or will Windows XP see that card in the new slot and all settings and function (including Port Forward) be as before.
Thanks

Hi saipan1972
You know I was looking up my computer to try and determine what MB it had in it a short while ago to try and answer another question, I don’t think I was able to determine it definitely. I will look into that again and post what I find out. I know the mother board has a PCI express slot and then 3 other slots. These 3 slots are all the same length, I can’t tell you what slot type they are by looking other than the plastic color differs, some are blue plastic and some are white plastic. I don’t know if the color is an aid in identifying the slot type but I do know that moving my internet card over one slot will resulting in me plugging it into a slot of a color other than the color of slot that it is in now.

It is a Medion Director 5100
Looking in various sites gives me either an Asus P8H61-M LE/CSM or Asus P8H67-M LE or possibly a MSI MS-7046 etc.
Is it actually marked on the board, in a place that I can see it without taking the whole thing apart?

Its always smart to ask first. Even a educated guess is better than a roll of the dice.
CPU-Z is a free utility that will provide you with system information. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
From what you've posted, all three slots are PCI and XP will see the NIC in any of the three available slots. In the past, (like years ago), slot IRQ was a consideration with sound cards, but technology has improved and addressed those concerns. The Asus P8 indicates an 1155 socket, which isn't a Pentium 4, but second generation core i7/i5/i3.

Medion is a German re-branding firm (Aldi). You will probably be OK to go with data provided by CPU-Z.
As long as it's a PCI family slot you should not have any software problems moving the card.

New card installed, all is well, still have to check my Port Forward but it should be ok.
So thanks to all here for their help.
