    Challenge Idea

I've been away from the forum - and SH4 - for a few months. Starting to inch my way back (though I'll be away on training for the next two weeks). However, as I was scanning posts, I saw some suggestions for generating a little more interest. Someone proposed a competitive career - I think. I like this idea. Let me try to flesh it out a bit.

All the participants would agree on a start date, sub, number of renown points, and base. The career could be a set number of missions (7, 8, or 9). There would be no transfers other than those that are built into the game.

It would also be good to use standard mods - I'd recommend TMO_2.5. Probably best to inactivate RSRD because it produces historical IJN fleet movements.

Participants would provide a short write-up of each mission with a few selected screenshots.

I'd recommend no refueling/refitting other than at Midway if based at Pearl. Thus you only get to use your original number of torpedoes.

I'm thinking of this as being less competitive than comparative.

One other possibility would be to have two (or more) teams. Each team would start at a different base. Teams could total up their monthly (and cumulative) tonnage for purposes of comparison.

    I'll join team Paul...

Good to see you, I hang mostly at Subsim, but still check in.

We should setup an online server, teams of two subs playing a difficult single mission. Wonder if anyone could invade my Truk Harbor, sink a few ships and escape
    with their lives...

I'll take a piece of that action. Sign me and my sub or destroyer (whatever one) up!

Hadn't considered the possibility of online play. That requires a lot more logistics in terms of coordinating times/dates. And, of course, the need for a dedicated server. I vaguely recall some people in the past doing multiplayer online but also it all petered. I'd be willing to give it a try if someone else would set it up.

Meanwhile, the option of a career with same start date, base, and number of missions is doable with no logistics overhead.

Incidentally, I'm in Sterling Heights, MI until 21 September for training. I'll be back on my normal/home schedule after that.

I'll see about getting a server set up. If we could get a few teams, be interesting to have a lil competition. I could create
a few single missions, course I would make them very difficult with several triggers.

Would we be using 1.5 silent hunter 4 or would we have mods on?

Each team would have to use the same mods, in fairness, I guess we all would. I would say TMO/RSRD.
I could create some missions, but I also want to play, so that may give me an advantage, so maybe we could
get someone to create a few for us. Still, I could pull a few of my special missions out of RSRD and make them
    single missions.

Just noticed. TMO 2.5 without RSRD.

Well, we could make missions off TMO alone. When Paul gets back we'll figure it out, I should be able to find
someone at Subsim that has a server setup. I haven't done online in 4 years, but it works pretty well once
    you get configured.

You and I can team up against Paul and someone else. I'll let you be the decoy for the escorts, once you pull them away, I'll go
    in for the kills.
