Rad19z do you know the guys that build your computer? If you do you could go ask them what it would cost to update your graphics.

I have put the question to them, but they haven't responded.

I did read something where there are different styles of card which had different physical configurations as to how they plug in. I assume opening the cover to see which type of slots I have would solve that problem.

But for the power requirements that must require knowing the specific model of mother board?

That video card is the #1 "suspect" to your problem. I tried to find your card in the "hierarchy chart" from Tom's List, and couldn't even find it. Like Yooperbacker said, it's probably an integrated (built into the motherboard) graphics solution. From what I can tell, the 6150 (stand alone card) goes back earlier than the minimum requirement of a GeForce 6200 card. The ram you have on the card is plenty (over 500Mb), so is the pixel shader of 2.0, and the DirectX 9 (you have 11.0). What exactly is the difference between a 6150 card and the 6200? I don't know, but it may be the only reason why your game won't run. As was suggested, see if your laptop builder could help in an upgrade.

    BUT, before you do.

Try the "Large Address Aware" application for getting your computers full memory of ram (4.0Gb) to be used by the game. The trouble with older games is they were not made to use the full potential the modern computers have to offer. 2 Gb's of ram was considered the limit the computer would need to run the game. However, with today's computers having greater amounts of ram available, a "Flag" needs to be added to the .exe game file (the file that starts the game) in order to have the game use this ram. I just used it with "Sid Meier's RailRoads" on a laptop with 4 Gb of ram and it's prevented a guaranteed CTD that occurred every time I played for a short while. This is especially helpful if your on a 64 bit system like you have.

Here's a link to the Large Address Aware application.

    Sorry to hear that!

I'd still keep the Large Address Aware app available for use. It will still give you a boost with most 32 bit games on a computer like yours.

Guess you might have to look at the upgrade option.

As I look at the "System Requirements" for the SH4 game it states:

"Supported Video cards at time of release:
    GeForce 6200/6600/6800/7800 are supported.
Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run the game."

I'm sure anything newer will work fine.

    =========

One other thing you may try before looking at a graphic's upgrade. Whenever I've installed the game, it'll ask to load the DirectX version that's included with the game. Even though I know I've got a version of DirectX newer than the one the game wishes to use, I still allow it go through the load process. I assume the install file will check the version and not over write the newer version but, there may be a file that gets loaded, that makes a difference to the game. I know it doesn't hurt anything to go through the motions of a DirectX install, so I just let it do it's thing.

Will it help? I don't know. You could try standing on one foot and whistle Dixie and probably do as well!

Rad19z why don't you post your Dxdiag so we know what makes up your computer.

Here are two ways you use to post your specs.

    For Windows XP:

1: Click on Start Menu (Start Button)
2: Click on "Run" on the right hand side.
3: Type "dxdiag" (minus quotes) in the dialogue box that appears.
4: Hit "Ok" or press enter.
5: Wait for the progress bar, bottom left, to complete.
6: Click on "Save All Information" and then save it to a text file in a location of your choosing.
7: Open the text file that you just created, select all ([CTRL]+[A]), copy ([CTRL]+ [C]) and then paste it ([CTRL]+[V]) in your forum message.

    For Windows Vista/7:

1: Type "dxdiag" (minus quotes) in the search box that is above the Start Button
    2: Follow steps 4 - 7 above.

    * * * * * * * * * *
Another way to do this -

I copied the below from a post by CircusMidget_TS

To post DirectX Diagnostic information do the following.

    1. Click Start
    2. Click Run (if you are on Vista, click into the 'Search Textfield')
    3. Type DXDIAG then press ENTER
    4. When the DirectX Diagnostic loads, click the "Save All Information" Button.
    5. Save the text file to your desktop
    6. Locate the text file on your desktop and double-click the file to open it
    7. Click on Edit
    8. Click on Select All
    9. Click on Edit
    10. Click on Copy (make sure all of the text is highlighted when you click Copy)
    11. Right-click into the text field of your forum post and click on Paste

You've got a very nice computer! Much faster/newer than the laptop I'm on now.

But, that GeForce 6150 graphics solution must be just a "bit too light in the shorts". Not that I know why it doesn't measure up to a 6200. I have no idea. Since the game requirements state the 6200 is the minimum for running the game......I'll take them on their word.

Well at least that motherboard has a PCI-E x16 slot to put a proper video card in, so you could easily buy and fit a suitable card.

Ok, cool. Now what is a suitable card that won't break the bank?

I assume these things are still pretty much just plug into a slot and connect a plug or two? I haven't put a card into a computer in probably at least fifteen years.

And I assume buying online is probably a cheaper route? Suggestions for a reputable place?

    Thanks a lot!
