Kinect PlayFit - Workarounds?
I have been doing some experimenting with YSFE 2012 and PlayFit. And have come up with some workarounds that may help some players. A friend of mine came up with the theory that when the Kinect sensor loses track of you in the game that, even though the game itself recovers and continues to count calories, PlayFit does not recover so that is the end of calorie counting for the ENTIRE session of playing the game. That means if you hear any of the phrases like "Where did you go?", "Glad to see you back." or "Good to have you back." then the sensor has lost you for perhaps a very brief instance and has stopped counting your calories in PlayFit. It also means that if you pause your workout or leave the play space in between workouts, classes or activities that your calorie count in PlayFit will stop at that point.
Over the last three or four days I have been putting this theory to the test and it seems to be sound. After each workout, class or activity I completed I would exit YSFE 2012 and check on the calories recorded by PlayFit. In most cases the number of calories matched or were very close to those recorded by the game. However, when doing a Run-the-world session I heard the dreaded words, "Where did you go?" very early in my run. For that running session PlayFit recorded 1 calorie. When doing the full rehearsal of the "Pop Dance" class I heard "Glad to see you back." when I had reached 40 calories into the class. I completed the class, exited the game and checked the calories in PlayFit. The first 40 calories of that class were recorded by PlayFit. With each instance I tried pausing a workout or leaving the play space in between workouts the calories count would stop recording in PlayFit and any further exercise I would do after that the calories would not be counted.
I had also observer, and mentioned before, that PlayFit does not like the floor exercises. So while YSFE 2012 will count you calories during floor exercises PlayFit does not and it will stop counting any calories after the floor exercises. I did a text with the Arms 100% (D) workout because it contains a routine of three floor exercises in the middle ot the workout. Each time I did the workout with the floor exercise PlayFit recorded 10-12 calories. But when I did this same workout but did not do the floor exercises, I substituted some moving about stand up exercises instead for those three exercises, my calorie count within YSFE 2012 and PlayFit were that same.
So, in order to make the calorie counting work for me with YSFE 2012 and Playfit I do the following: I exit the game after each workout, class or activity and check the calories recorded by PlayFit. If I want to take a water break etc. I make sure I do it while in the Xbox Dashboard. I always make sure I am recognized by the Kinect ID before going back into the YSFE 2012 game. I avoid workouts with floor exercises or do something else during floor exercise routines. I pay close attention to when/if I hear the "Glad to see yo back." "Where did you go?" phrases.
Yes, this is all very fiddlely. Hopefully future updates to PlayFit and/ot YSFE 2012 will take care of these problems.

Thank you for sharing (and investigating!) this, Auntie. At least I have an excuse now to replace the floor exercises with something more fun, though I hope the PlayFit developers will fix this soon.

Wow - some great findings there AuntieParticle!
I've been experimenting with it a bit but so far, it has counted a fraction of the calories actually burned (according to YSFE12) and didn't count any when I played Dance Central 2. Haven't played Star Wars since I downloaded the app so no idea how that will do.
Sounds very buggy so I hope they fix this soon as it could be a great little way of tying the different fitness apps together.

I am also having issues with YSFE 2012 and getting Kinect PlayFit to register any of my calories burned! The last two sessions of YSFE2012 I played registered no calories in Kinect PlayFit!!!
Wow...Auntie's suggestion seems like a lot of work. Ubi...this is an issue!!!
