Good patrol - with screens
I know its been a long time since Ive been on here, work and new games among other things. But I figured I would post this on here since Ive been shooting for this for a long time and I cant seem to find the orignal post pertaining to high tonnage sunk for one patrol.
February 20, 1942 - 10:00
Enroute to patrol area off Luzon. Encountered a fairly large task force consisting of no fewer than six destoryers, two larger modern tankers, three battleships, four to five light cruisers, and two or three heavy cruisers.

10.58
In position, unload four forward tubes. Two against the lead battleship a Kongo class, the other two between the trailing Kongo and Fuso class battleships. Destoryers was alerted to my presence before I even launched a single torpedo. Still cant figure out how they knew I was in position with me running on silent running at 1 knot. This caused the task force to take evasive manuvers. Two of four torpedos hit, one hit the stern of the lead Kongo battleship knocking out her two outboard engines. The other torpedo missed the trailing Kongo target but found the soft side of a ***a light cruiser. The light cruiser was sent to the bottom.

Went to 315 feet depth at 4 knots ahead changing course from time to time heading same general direction as the task force. Destoryers lost me and stayed well astern of me, finally speeding off to catch up with the convoy. I shadowed the convoy at extreme range just barely keeping them in line of sight for the rest of the day.

In position off to starboard of task force I launched all four aft tubes, two at the new lead battleship a Fuso class, the other two between the two Kongo classes. Scored a direct hit amidship and aft on one Kongo class, the previously damaged Kongo received another hit in the same general area just forward of the previous torpedo hit earlier that day. The Fuso on the other hand scored a lucky hit with the second torpedo that detonated the forward magazine and sent her to the bottom.
Two hits - Damaged

Two hits - Sunk

After this a storm rolled in, visiability limited to 500 yards to 4,000 yards mixed in with patches of fog. I still proceeded to make way ahead of the task force that is now severly slowed down and get in position for another shot at the two remaining battleships. After I allowed the task force to get ahead of me I surfaced and proceeded along at 10 knots, faster than the task force speed but slow enough to give me time to train my 4inch/50cal aft mounted deck gun on the listing Kongo that took two in her side in the second attack. The storm kept water washing over her deck and I unloaded a full compliment of AP rounds into her side along with half of the HE rounds I was carrying. This got the attention of a destoryer that came to investigate, the storm and limited visibility preventing him from locating me but his search lights in the storm and the patches of fog was a light house for me. I pumped 15 HE shells into her superstructure and hull setting her ablaze.
While enroute to my position to make final attack on the Kongo battleships, out of the fog two large modern tankers crossed my T aft of me. I unloaded two torpedos into each one only causing heavy damage.

I arrived in position and closed distance to 600 yards to obtain a good visual on one of the damaged Kongo class battleships. I fired two more torpedos out of the foreward tubes into her side. This Kongo that was listing heavily rolled over onto her side and capsized, while in this position before turning to intercept the remaining Kongo battleship there was a heavy cruiser aft of my position. I fired the only torpedo I had loaded in the stern into her side, she took damage but did not sink.

In position I fired two torpedos into the side of the last damaged Kongo afloat and sent her to the bottom.

After this final attack, with my torpedos exhausted and close to my base of operations I desided to surface and make way for home at 10 knots aborting the patrol mission off Luzon.

Before arriving to base, I received message that our base was relocated to Freemantle. I arrived home ending my short but action packed mission in the early morning.

I was awarded and given command of a new sub and now for some strange reason after docking in freemantle I am now operating out of Pearl Harbor.
