I got COD the other day in the mail and I just wanted to say that I think it looks reall good. Being a liitle-bit conservative about my good old IL2 1946 I had a bad atitude when I first got COD up and running, and I didn't like it. But the more I have messed around with it the more I have been getting hooked. I tweeked it and got it running smooth and with the time of day set at late afternoon or morning you can get some striking views. They had me talikng to myself: "Holy ****!, that is ******* amazing" " That is bad-a**!" " Oh, no way, you gotta be kidding. Look at that!" " Wheres that ******* airfield?" Holy geee" " That looks ******* beautiful man, just beatiful." The wife thinks I'm a nutcase.
I still only have the basic un-patched game installed, I plan to start the process soon becasue I would like to get the armour-piercing bullets in the Spit. Right now I can't change ammo and those 303s are like shooting spitballs or rubber BBs.
I am embarrassed to say how long it took me to take down this AI 109:
This was my first kill:

I didn't use a trouble shooting guide, I adjusted the settings in the game until I found what worked and I also update the driver in my game card and I think that helped. I am a long way from having wavy grass etc, that stuff will take a real upgrade, and I am NO pc wizard thats for sure. But atleast I can fly smoothly in the game now.
I have 4 gigs RAM and an AMD Phenom 9600B Quad core 2.3 Ghz, and a GTX 460.

Morris you say you haven't started patching the game yet? I got Cliffs on disc when it was released. Steam should have automatically updated you to the latest official version which is 1.05.15950. I would strongly recommend NOT installing the latest alpha patch or it's hotfix. I did and I can no longer start the game. The launcher exe keeps crashing!
I must admit I'm not too bothered as for me the best thing about my year with CLoD is that frustration with the game led me to explore Rise of Flight properly which is an absolute gem.
I would wait for the next official patch from Steam which could be two weeks, two months or even two years. No one really knows, least of all the devs it seems!
@Choctaw; I've been running CLoD on Win7 64 bit with a E8400 running at 3.0ghz, 4 gigs DDR3 and an Nvidia 460gtx with 756 of vram. It runs CLoD surprisingly well ( sorry, it used to run CLoD surprisingly well, lol) but I'd say this card or it's ATI equivalent are the minimum you need to get decent results. Make sure you uncheck the epilepsy filter, the sasso thingy, try running it with V-sync unchecked too. Yes there will be tearing but the increase in frame rates is worth it. Uncheck roads and grass and take everything to do with ground detail down to a minimum. Also, get rid of the useless mirror on the Spit and Hurri. They don't work properly and cost 15-20fps!!
With this set up I get in the range of 35-50fps depending on altitude and location and I keep shadows on and the game looks breathtaking from the ****pit.
Good luck with it.
Edit; hey Morris, how you doing m8? You posted those specs just as I was replying and yep those are about the settings I was running just screen at native res. AA don't work though.
As far as I remember you have to select each individual gun and delete the ammo selected and then select and install a new ammo type from the list. I put in tracer in the outers and then a mixture of AP and incendary in the rest. However, this was for online. I'm not sure if you can change the loads offline. 'Fraid you might have to wade through all the crud over on the banana forums for answers.
Ah, edit again; here you go, check out SEE's post at bottom of page one.

That seemes to have worked although after I changed the ammo load-outs for each gun in the FMB I still couldn't do anything with the 'player plane' info you see right before launching the mission. The info there about my guns doesnt match what I did in FMB, but I can tell when flying that the changes were made. I put incindiery tracers on the outsides and aromor piercing on the remaining six. It has some more damaging power, but nothing near what the 109s have. I can eat up Spits and Hurris in a 109.Originally Posted by arthursmedley Go to original post
Thanks for that link!
There's a performance optimization thread at the 1C forum: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=29004
