Recon Mission Advice? | Forums

I have been assigned a special mission to recon Bergen harbor and I have never attempted such a mission before. What does one have to do to complete a recon mission successfully? I assume it involves cruising around for awhile on the surface near the target icon, or can one just slip in submerged and take a quick look with the observation periscope?

It would be best, I'm sure, to know beforehand what is required for a successful completion. If anyone who has run a recon can provide a little advice, I would feel a lot more confident going in.

I don't play SH5 so I am not much help here but if you do find out the answer to your question posting back how you did it may help others to.

I guess the answer will have to remain a mystery. When I got to Bergen and reached the recon marker icon, the whole place was already swarming with German ships. I suppose the invasion had taken place while I was still at sea?

At any rate, I explored the harbor pretty thoroughly and even docked there to refit. Then I parked my sub right on the recon marker icon for several hours more. I finally just headed out to sea again without ever getting a "mission completed" message. It was all kind of confusing and frustrating.

That's to bad, maybe you needed to sit there for 24 or maybe 48 hrs.? I don't know, but I guess your campaign continues.

Lock onto a ship in the harbor. Then click on the periscope tab on the bottom left part of the screen and look for the camera button. Click that and you take a picture. Repeat for a couple of ships until you get the objective complete message.

What does the periscope tab look like, I am not sure I have it, how do I get it

the only thing I have at bottom left is depth, speed, map, recognition (if I click off screen to the right) and some useless map plotting tools

I am using Silent Hunter 4 and have entered the Recon target area but have never been able to activate the camera icon!! Have come withing 500 yards of various ships in the harbor in broad daylight and using the periscope where the camera icon is, hav simple e never been able to activate the icon. Do you have any ideas? Probably something but sure haven't found it yet!
