Just got SH4 - repair problems

Hi, first post here. I got SH4 the other day and I've never played a sub sim before. I'm really enjoying it, however I have one problem. Even when my control repair team is full of mechanics, nothing seems to get repaired. The most that gets repaired are the engines. If I take any damage to my hull or propeller then its game over because I can't repair it. Also enemy ships were depth charging me at 160ft. I didn't know they could reach that far...

    Welcome aboard lfc908,

First of all did you have your crew at battle stations, the damage control team is only activated then.

Hull damage and things like propellers will only be repaired when you get back to your home port.

Depth charges can go deeper than your boat can.

What version of the game are you running? v1.4 or v1.5 with UBM?

Welcome aboard, Donna is right, unless you are either at battlestations or have the damage control party stationed, you will not repair anything. Best way to fix your equipment is to not get damaged in the first place.

    Welcome aboard...

Equipment should repair unless it's totally destroyed. Most equipment repaired works good as new, however you'll notice with hull damage even repaired at sea, the damage percent remains, simply, it's repaired, but much weaker.

Best way to look at the hull damage thing is this, yes it no longer leaks because us submariners are some patchin fools, but even though it doesn't let water into the people tank doesn't mean the hole isn't there any more.

You can go deeper then 160 feet. mouse over the base of the guages in the bottom right and they will change. The telegraph switches to a gauge where you can select the exact speed you want to go. The compas turns into a rudder, and the depth guage opens up to deeper reading.

Welcome aboard. To add to everyone else, go to the various guides and check them out. http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...5/m/9661024145
They have a lot of useful information. Make generous use of the tutorials (or training missions). Don't be afraid to ask questions. Great group here and we're all happy to help.

Thanks for the advice guys :-) I think the problem was, that I stupidly ended up in 60ft of water and I had 4 ships circling me. They were all dropping DC and I believe I was taking more damage quicker than I could repair it :-) I've been quickly learning the game and I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for your help

Yep, we've all made that same mistake. Some of us still do. Very easy to do when pushing ****ons that are very close together, or clicking on a spot on a computer guage.
