IT'S NOT Far Cry without vehicles!!!
What we have here once again is the classic "throw the baby out with the bath water". Don't fix it just get rid of it! The vehicles in FC2 may have sucked but they were fun in Instincts and Pred. Mabye they weren't perfect but they added fun and diversity. And they allowed for different types of maps to be made. The jet ski and bike from Pred are some of the best vehicles in gaming. If they just updated these two and brought them back it would be great. But no vehicles at all is totally ignorant and shows just how arrogant Ubi is.
I said no, but that is cause i support the developer's choice for their direction for multiplayer, but i do think vehicles should be in the map editor, and custom maps.
If vehicles aren't in official ranked matches I don't care, but if they aren't in the creator it limits what I can create in the editor. I can't build race maps, I can't build maps that are too big cause it will be dificult for people to get across, i can't do other creative things with them that i might think of in the future. Its just limiting what an artist can create by taking tools away from him, cause it doesn't fit what they consider to be their "multiplayer experience".
A trip down memory lane for some of you guys - Those that remember FCI on Xbox1 and FCIP on 360 will know that vehicles were instant / fast / fun.
No messing around, click a ****on once and you are on / off - Players would always jump on board and the Jetski and ATV would always have passengers and players dropping one off and waiting while they got the sample to then take them back.
Even SnS mode allowed the player to capture the stations while driving most of the vehicles - you could actually use it like a battering ram and drive onto the capture point and switch to mounted gun while taking the station.
I can 100% guarantee that they worked on even small maps and were a must on bigger ones, but then that game also had weapon and health - armor placement, It is so different now, the only things remains Far Cry is the Island Theme and the Editor.
STS (Steal The Sample / Capture The Flag mode) back then allowed to throw the sample to other players or high up / low down places for others. It was auto pick up - no need to press ****ons or anything, the game was fast and furious.
FC2
Boats looked ok but were a disgrace to drive and most vehicles got used solo because they were so easy to blow up other players didn't want taking out in groups.
Gliders in FC2 were like a bird with no wings.
They did work ok in the right made maps, My PS3 Map above had custom made bases that allowed the vehicle to drive right through - fun with the saboteur and an IED for clearing out that area with a suicide bomber approach.
But everything changes / evolves, we just have to move on - I like what I see in FC3, It would have been fun with some vehicles I am sure but I will still have a good time.
Had they taken out the editor then that would have been a deal breaker possibly.
I hope that one day we get a 10 Year Anniversary Edition of Far Cry with all the good stuff back (I am sure the PC crowd would like that, a HD Version with a more advanced editor but with the old style of play)
However it was Crytek that made the game on PC so maybe it won't ever happen.
Vehicles have to be in multiplayer, If they are not, then its not a Far Cry game (multiplayer-wise). Vehicles are the center-piece to the Far Cry franchise. It adds enjoyment and unpredictability to the game. Without them, players that dominate matches will dominate them even more due to the match being very predictable. There are no positives to leaving vehicles out of multiplayer and there is no acceptable reason. NONE. That is all...![]()
As of yet I don't think the developers have said that vehicles will be in the editor for custom matches, but we can sort of assume they will be.
But even if they are, someone answer me this: Surely we would all be playing custom maps for the variety of levels in size and scope and the vehicular gameplay which would leave ranked matches redundant?
