I smoked from when I was 13 to 30. Gave it up cold turkey.Best thing I ever did.Two packs a day when I was drinking. Gave it up on Fathers Day !.I've know three smokers who have died from lung cancer. It was not pretty to see them at the end. Two of the three carried around air packs at the end.Hang in there and expect to see grandchildren. I was a big beer drinker and gave up drinking on my 50th birthday. That's 17 years ago. I have five grandkids and see them all the time. Good Luck. It can be done.

I don't smoke. Both of my parents do...for that matter most of my extended family does. Aunts and Uncles, cousins (some), and Grandparents. Living in the South and a big tobacco producing state it is easy to see why everyone smokes. That is not to say I HAVEN'T smoked, but I can't tell you the last time I did and could probably count the overall cigarettes on one hand. However, I did go through a multi-year phase of chewing tobacco. Playing baseball through Jr High and High School, it just went hand in hand, because thats what the older boys and the pros did. I dropped that before I graduated high school, but have done it on occassion since then, but never for an extended period of time. Usually a 1 and done.

I wish you luck on quitting. Wish my parents would quit. Dad had a quadruple bypass a few years ago and REALLY trimmed down his habit, but Mom refuses because she's afraid she'll gain weight.

I was able to go cold turkey when my daughter was born. She was born with some very minor breathing problems. But I read somewhere the smoke in your clothes when you hold a baby closse can irritate her condition(dont really know how true that is). Serioulsy put the pack down and never looked back. Glad she came along in SO MANY ways. I have had 1-2 smokes over the years at a bar with friends. Never caught back on thankfully.

I well understand what is meant. Although I don't know if it will irritate people with breathing problems, I have personal experience that can support that. I have noticed while in a "smoke free" public place, I can tell if someone who smokes just walks past me. In one case, at a doctor's office, a gentleman sat a couple spaces away from me. I had to move because of the smell of smoke on his clothes was irritating me. BTW, I don't have any lung/breathing problems.

Yup, your almost there! Dont trip over the finish line by going to the pub or parties just yet. Not sure if your a drinker, but that seems to be everyones biggest fault.

And just when you think your free and clear, thats when it comes back the hardest. Keep an even keel my friend. Your new, smoke free life awaits!

Now that i have quit, people smoking absolutely pisses me off, but I was that guy once too.

I make a guess that is the worst part about trying to quit. So many people smoke, that you just can't get away from it. I can see, like any other addiction, that just the smell is enough of a trigger to get someone smoking again. Again, MWolfe, my prayers are with you. Keep up the good work an stay strong.
