Everything will not run. Only about five or so on average will over the whole map, but all except the first set of praetorians can be farmed over and over again by reloading and engaging them with a different hero. Also, I wouldn't approach anything you don't have to kill until you have the ghouls in your army too. And when you do have to fight a stack that is blocking your path and won't run, use Arachne if you cannot already defeat them with minimal losses.

Losing a small number of the skeletons shouldn't be a big deal, just mostly evenly divide the stacks and be sure to pick up the ghouls and you'll be fine.

As a note, most of the mobs that run from me come after acquiring the second castle. There's a pack of wolves to the south that ran away frequently and several core stacks far east of it that usually have one or two that run there as well. However, as long as the disposition isn't hatred, just about anything might run away. I had a high threat stack of earth elementals run away once, they were only aggressive though.

Another thing, it seems that once you've approached a mob and then retreated, it locks it into whether it will run away or not. On the same save file the same stacks will run or not no matter what hero I use or how many times I try. When I restart the maps different stacks are selected as the ones that run away.

Also, I'm not sure if it helps, but I picked up the diplomacy perk too. Couldn't hurt.

Fighting with the weapon is not the way to level it quickly. The XP gained is negligible because it's capping at some point. The way to max a weapon is to approach a stack that attempts to run away. When you select "leave them" you'll get XP from that and if you've followed my guide it will be more than enough to max a weapon.

There will be a few stacks that you must fight to gain access to the rest of the map however, but they will not max the weapon you use to fight them.

If anyone is having problems with the technique, read my first post. It explains everything in detail and will likely address any problems you have.

i tried your method and managed to level up quite a few of my weapon(i was fighting the harpies on the left inside of the castle swapping for a new heroes every time. But i had to change heroes each time or it would not upgrade my weapon.) After a while i ran out of heroes and restarting the whole process did not change anything. Consequently i checked the soulforge as some people suggested. To my surprise , i discovered that most of my weapon were not at the same level than in reality. So i could not improve my weapon as it was 1 to 3 level behind than they really were . Finally do you know any other part of the campaign where we can try that strategy again to finish upgrading the weapon. Thks

I have not personally tried other maps. You should be able to restart the necropolis map after you run out of heroes, this allowed me to start gaining XP again. Try clearing the old campaign hero and creating a new one if that doesn't work.

I noticed the soul forge is not always showing the proper levels as well. Just ignore it though, as the in-game level is all that matters.

If you don't have Arachne before doing this trick you may just want to play through the map normally (without using my leveling trick), on easy mode so you can do it quickly, and obtain it. As soon as you have Arachne restart the map with a might hero and make sure it's the first weapon you level as you leave the underworld. You can still purchase magic heroes at this point to level magic dynasty weapons, but your main hero will be able to easily take down mobs that must be killed.

I finally levelled Arachne to level 4 the old fashioned way just to try this method. And what do you know, with the exception of the first Sentinel stack scripted to flee, every other neutral stack wants to have a go at me. Even the goblins.

From the posts in this topic it seems there is an element of randomness whether the neutrals decide to take a swing at you or flee from your awesome might.

Oh well. I'll just restart the scenario again and try again later today.

You had the 2 near max stacks of skeletal spearmen yes (one maxed and the other about 850k)? And the 999,999 stack of ghouls too, right? And you approached every stack on the map with this army? (most of the ones that ran from me were after the second underground area, around the 2nd castle)

That is very odd if you didn't get any other than the first one if this is the case, as I generally got about 5. This is possible, there definitely is randomness to whether things flee or not, but I would think that nothing else running would be unlikely. Generally you would get some that flee.

Also, you don't have to level Arachne "the old fashioned way". Because the first stack always flee one can level Arachne off of that one if it's not already maxed. And just to clarify, Arachne does not increase the chances of anything fleeing from your army, it's purely a tool for trivially killing neutral stacks that block your path and refuse to run from your army.

Dynasty Weapons are a complete fail option to try to add replay value to a dull game. It takes forever to upgrade them with normal play. Just create a custom map with enormous starting armies and enormous creature stacks and go wild.

In fact someone made a simple custom map that is meant for this purpose. If you use search you'll find it, it may be in the sticky threads too, or google it. The map has every Dynasty Weapon available, you just pick up the ones you don't have so you don't have to go through the campaigns over and over again. Second, you start with 1million phoenixes and you just mozy your way through a bridge of enormous monster stacks and quickly upgrade your Dynasty Weapons. You just restart the map over and over, each time with a new dynasty weapon. It literally takes you 2 minutes to max out the experience of a Dynasty Weapon.

Just do this and move on.
