By now you all have seen the Buy a XBOX360 w/Kinect and Kinect Sports Game bundle and you can get a FitBit for free.

Me I have been using YourShape:FE, UFC Personal Trainer and now YourShape:FE 2010 since each launched...so the deal didn't apply to me. I did however find the FitBit device at my local BB yesterday and we picked a couple (one for me and one for the wife). Note: I am in no way affiliated with the creators of the device.

My first impression is this is a very cool device. It is small and unintrusive. The premise is that you wear it all the time (even sleeping). It tracks your "acitivity" throughout the day and you can get a realtime glimpse at your "Active" score. At night it tracks when you are asleep and/or tossin and turning (pretty cool as it gives you a Sleep efficiency score). Technically it is a motion sensor that acts as Pedometer as it does counts steps. The Ultra model has an altimeter in it so counts Stairs as well.

The device comes with a USB "Base Station" that charges the device (They say to charge every 5 days) and acts as a wireless receiver for the device. With the base station plugged into your pewter and when you (with fitbit on) are within 15' of the base; the fitbit transmits data to the computer which in turn updates your account on the fitbit web site.

The Fitbit logging website is the killer part of this deal. Unlike, other websites we love to hate (wink) it allows a ton of interaction and is consistant. You can track Food/water, activiities, sleep, a journal and vitals.

This is where YS:FE 2012 (or anyother fitness game) comes in, we can enter Custom Activities that will override what the Fitbit recorded as activity. If you are using the fitbit and entering Custom YS:FE Activities please make them public in the database so we all can choose pick and find them (by default they are private). I will do the same.

The amount of information that you can see in one place is crazy...that and with Achievements and Badges this is an exciting little device to play with.
