    Leaderboard don't work?

    Hi!
All my leaderboards show nobody (apart from me). Do you have the same problem? It started several days ago.

The leaderboards are meaningless anyway. I have been a regular user of this game (minimum of 3x30 minutes a week) since the first release towards the end of 2010 and during that time I have burned a lot of calories. My score on the leaderboards do reflect the number of calories my console has recorded. However, it does not reflect the number of calories I have actually burned. Like many users out there we simply wanted to "complete" the game, one of those achievements was for 200000 calories, and I have the achievement.

200000 calories? Let's consider one of the highest energy classes: Boot Camp. The 8 minutes Boot Camp burns 10 calories, so 200K equates to 2667 hours. Doing an hour a day would take over 7 years. Yeah, right! Even one of the more generous (in terms of calorie counting) exercises would give you little more than 200 calories an hour. Doing an hour a day - which is simply not practical - would take between two and three years to get the achievement.

In the first game I earned all the calorie landmark achievements honestly as they were achievable (and the calorie count was more realistic). However, if the developers are going to introduce such ridiculous landmark achievements in the new game then they will encourage this type of behaviour.

I wonder if the Leaderboards being down is because Ubishaft are reflecting on how silly some of those scores have become.

Strangely the leader boards seem to be working fine when accessed via the iPad app (but not via the ipad browser to the web site)

Sorry, but i don't agree that the leaderboards are meaningless. Four months ago i started the original YSFE with a daily performance of 100 to 200 calories a day. Shortly afterwards i began recording my weight, fat percentage, muscle percentage and visceral fat. Despite the apparent success, sometimes there was no progress for several days. The leaderboards helped me not to despair, because I saw a progress almost every day. And with the help of the monthly event i'm motivated enough to push me to the limits. My daily performance has now reached about 500 to 600 calories a day and i hope to do more in the future if I can afford the time.
In fact the calories count in YSFE is ridiculous in many ways. And although in YSFE 2012 everything is much better, one might wish for improvement. However, if all gamers compete on the same fair and honest basis ... what's the problem? Not the scores should be called silly, but the gamers who achieved them on an unfair basis.

I was glad to see that I can still access leaderboards using my Android app, so it must just be the website that's having a problem.

I agree that the leaderboards are NOT meaningless. That is, they are not meaningless to me. I enjoy looking at them. I know that with my usage of YSFE and YSFE 2012 I will never reach the top of the leaderboards. This is not important to me. I enjoy them because they illustrate to me that there is a large community of people out there who are participating in something that I also like participating in.

As far as the actually "calorie count" goes, to me it is just A Number (as opposed to being THE Number or even a very correct number ). But as it increases over time it works to show me that I'm making progress through the daily exercise I do. I know that eventually I will reach 200,000 calories and beyond if I stick to what I'm doing. I plan to be working out for a very long time. It does not trouble me that reaching a high "calorie count" will take some time.

I do however wish that there were other areas of competition for events. I like the way YSFE 2012 keeps track of things like how many push-ups we've done or how many blocks we've stacked or how many miles we've run, etc. I would love to see events that use those numbers instead of just the "calorie count". Perhaps it will be possible to have events like that in the future.

Person A weighs X pounds and he/she completes 10 minutes of a particular exercise four times a week.
Person B weighs X/2 pounds and he/she completes the same 10 minute exercise four times a week also.
However, A will continue to move ahead of B on the leaderboard because... they are fitter? they are putting in more effort?

How can skinny Steve compete fairly with chubby Charlie is they are both doing exactly the same exercises? How is this meaningful?

The only "fair and honest basis" is to score us on how accurate our exercises are. Let's say that you score 10 points every minute and this is adjusted by your overall score. So, for example, after an 8 minute workout I should earn 80 points, but because my overall "performance" is 83% I earn 83% of 80 ~= 66 points. Okay, we know the tracking is not perfect, but it's much fairer than the function of mass and time model currently being used.

@NanoParticle: I know this is slightly off topic, but have you done the maths on how long it will take you to get to 200000 calories? Will you be playing this game (2012 edition) in four or five years time? If you move to a new edition then you will be working toward new achievements. That is fine, but what is the point of this particular achievement in this game? Who, other than "cheats" like me, are going to get it honestly and fairly?

@euler_13: i SO agree with you!!

im fairly not large and i can't even reach the normal goals with my real weight and height.. so how could i compete in events or scoreboards?
afair and honest bases for me is EITHER everyone puts the same values in heigt and weight OR the burned calories are counted for each lb/kg of everyones weight seperate (cal/kg)

otherwise it is unfair like now...

    @euler_13 and OniBoniOni
Sorry, folks. I think i was slightly misunderstood. With "a fair an honest basis" i wanted to say that everyone should first indicate his (or her) gender, age, size and weight correctly, secondly, should do the exercises as well as possible, and thirdly, no one should use the workarounds of a certain website to push his score or achievements.
The weight based multipliers for the calorie-counting should be reconsidered. That's true. But first of all it's just a counter, nothing more. And I like it because it pushes ME forward. Yes, I confess: I like to kill all those evil calories at the end of each session. Puuh, am I good ???!!!. ) ) )
Only in terms of monthly events, I expect that everyone behaves as described above. On the other hand, In the interest of fair competition the developers would be well advised to listen to the suggestions of the community, such as the proposals you made. An implementation of scoring boards based on accuracy or cal/kg should be easy. Why not? For me, I would like weight classes for men and women in the monthly event. Also there should be different scoring boards for users of the original YSFE and YSFE 2012, because the calories counting is so different. But alas, I'm afraid that Ubisoft will do nothing.
Let me end with this: Really fair competitions are currently not possible in YSFE. Nevertheless, that does not justify the behavior of some community members. Sorry, that's my opinion.
