I just bought it as I'm more of a ETO guy and wanted the extra maps.

Irish, I thought this focused on the Western front...? I have IL2+PF+AEP so I don't think there's any new maps, but maybe I'm overlooking something...????

BOE (Battles Over Europe), is as the name itself suggests over EUROPE, NOT the Pacific.

It`s not of the Eastern Front either, just the Western Front. (Damn thing won`t let me edit my first post - this forum editing is weird in GD).

Interesting, I did not know about this add on, is it compatible online with 4.04 even if the other players dont have it?

When my grandfathers, both of them WWII combat veterans who served in the US Army, described their experiences in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany they describe it collectively as the ETO. In their vernacular the 'E' meant 'European' Theater of Operations, as opposed to the Pacific Theater or anywhere else on the globe that GIs were being sent in 1943-5.

As for Battle Over Europe, I highly recommend it. It's best described as a 'missions and skins' expansion (no new planes or maps if you have AEP or the new Complete DVD) but it is the only way to get DGen campaigns for the Normandy and Ardennes maps. And before Pacific Fighters was released, BOE was really about the only way you could fly US or RAF DGen careers.

What I like about BOE is that it mixes up the type of missions you fly, at least if you're a P-47 driver. I've flown patrols, bomber escort, interdiction, and ground attack missions in the same campaign. There was a D-Day night mission that was especially memorable because there were searchlights and tracers and C-47s all in the same place.

Be forewarned that BoE doesn't work with Pacific Fighters 'standalone.' You need, at the very minimum, Forgotten Battles 1.0 but there are various BoE upgrades that support the AEP and PF expansions.

Sounds like a pretty good buy then... I guess I'm going to invest in it soon. Are the airfields populated nicely? Is there a true sense of immersion and activity with the campaign?
