    CD Key is in use.

I took a long hiatus from Ubisoft products after all the frustration of Ravenshield. Today I bought Far Cry and installed onto my Win XP machine (which has a relatively fresh OS install). I then patched to 1.3 and then patched to 1.31. I entered the multiplayer screen and joined 1 server, played about 5 minutes and was disconnected. From that point forward I kept getting CD key in use error. I have tried explicitly logging out, I rebooted, and have now waited 2 hours. (to be sure that any hung sessions would time out)

What a sober reminder of the great experience that is Ubisoft software.

I have absolutely no desire for single player play, I bought this game solely for multiplayer mode. I waited a long long time after release thinking it would be a safe bet at this point and guess I was wrong.

Anyone know why it is saying my CD key is in use? Anyone know why __every__ single ubisoft product has this problem?

whenever the server switches maps and you dont have the next map the server will hold your key there for about 3 to 5 minutes you have to wait till the server clears you for not being on... scan the forum for slugworths mapsite to get them all and it wont happen again......2 hours seems ridiculous...

Yea I saw that thread but my problem seems to be different. For one, the server I connected to was using stock maps. The map did not change either. I played for about 5 minutes and was disconnected. The round had 5 minutes left. After I rebooted and reloaded Far Cry, I saw that server still running the same map. I went to dinner and came back about 2 hrs later and rebooted and tried again. (I also fired up some network monitoring scripts that ping various routers in transit to a couple of the servers and saw no packet loss or serious latency. Both servers I have connected to were 33 pings for me)

Just now I installed Slugworth's Map Pack 1 & 2, loaded far cry and re-entered my CD key and logged in and was presented with a server listing. I again selected a server with a stock map. After logging on to that server and joining a bunch of foul language and ritalin-starved punks arguing about someone cheating, I disconnected (using the disconnect option) and tried another server. CD KEY IN USE.

No worries though, this experience totally reminded me why I left Ubi products the first time. I'm sure there is a work-aroud or a fix, but I'm tired of needing to monitor forums and read pages or posts just to get a game to work. That's just not entertaining to me.

I also thought there was gonna be an official coop mod as well, that I can't seem to find either, so Im just gonna find something else to occupy my time.

    Thanks for the help though.

Hmm wonder if he is talking about me?I was getting annoyed at someone and did one of my infrequent but very violent obscene swear sessions!Well I dont usually accuse someone of cheating and gave the guy a chance to prove it but he seems to have disappeared. But anyways guy dont give up on game just yet.I apologize if it was me!Needless to say I am not a teenager but 39 years old
the cdkey also can get locked up when u are suddenly disconnected from the server.
If u are on a clan server if u get to know the guys and use teamspeak u can get them to kick u{your cdkey} to unlock it.
sometimes but not always your cdkey will be locked till serevr changes maps
why when u disconnected using the disconnect button u got cdkey in use is beyond me,unless it didnt disconnect properly.

My friend and I have had A LOT of probs with multiplayer, including those listed. We both agree that Far Cry is probably the most difficult game to get to work online, that we both have. We both installed the FC Co-Op mod, and everything went to hell. Even after we both uninstalled the mod and FC, then reinstalled FC, we still had problems connecting with each other. Ubisoft needs get up off their dead asses, and fix this. This type of torture is not necessary. Especially since, once you finally DO get into an MP game, it is one of the most awe inspiring envioroments ever created, and to use it online is the balls.
