You guys hve to understand...i come from a small country...so the AIRFORCE does not have a lot of money...we had to fire everything with a string atached so we could retrive it afterwards...AND we DO NOT jetison FUEL TANKS, or we had to pay for them...we did however "borrowed" some from an Us plane...they were "abandoned" close to a plane...

I was not flying NAKED but my range was on the short side...AND SPECIFIC ORDERS from MY boss, not to even dare to aproach a combat zone.
at that time we only had 14 F16 in the Portuguese Airforce.

I quit the Airforce 2 years ago...at that time i was really desilusioned with the all thing, we did not even had fuel. big crises on my country armed forces...all branches...i did only 62 flight hours the all year...basically what we went to do in Kosovo was more because WE had to. WE did not have the means to engage, that was the only real action that i ever saw. the rest was just escort duty of AWACS miles away from the all thing

This morning a breakthrough!......finally located info on my great grandfather and great great grandfather......Census records from 1850-60-70-80.

Dirt farmers from Arkansas and Tennesee respectively. GGgF was born August 1816 in TN.
    WHOOOOOO----HOOOOO finally! I got ROOTS!

    Ok....now back on topic.....

Deepblue, reading one of your earlier posts about water survival school, it reminded me of how much training we used to "supply" to NATO and other friendly countries.

Drinking beer with German pilots in Texas, black jack games with Taiwanese Pilots (they weren't paid that well so if all else failed we could out last them).

As far as flying for a poor country, We had the entire Icelandic Navy come in for training once, put em in my ex-wife's minivan and took them out for dinner (should have sent her back with them). They were tired from rowing all that way, something to do with Vikings I think.

Deepblue how's the rebelion situation in Portugal nowadays? When I was a kid (mid 70's) we had an influx of your countrymen into our neighborhood. I guess the communists were making life kinda miserable for everyone.

Why is it whenever we have a chance to learn another language we always start with the cussing?

I bet your little charade with the pyro had a BM cussing like a sailor. I was a BM before I was a GM so I know the mentality well. I've seen some blow a gasket if a seagull flew to close to the boat. White paint shows all.
Yeah, the BM's were more than a little cheesed off, but what did we care, our next port was the big ditch and they were headed back to Norfolk.

It was waaaay too hot down there, but the scuba diving was very nice in all of that clear water.

jif1961, despite your typical snake eater, ground pounding, gravel agatating mentality...and your utter distain for those of us who looked down upon you poor dog faces, I'm willing to bet then to this day when you hear the whoop, whoop, whoop of those two big blades on that Huey, you still **** your ear by reflex....I know I do.

Since this is a friendly and good natured post the doom sayers probably will not look here. Anyone want to make a friendly bet about how long it takes after 1.3 comes up until they start ranting again?

Mere minutes, less than 60, would be my best guess...
