I flew a Tiger Moth once, Open cockpit and navigating by reading the roadsigns as we passed overhead. Thankfully the guy behind me was a better pilot otherwise i'd of held the record for high altitude flying of a prop job.....what is this thread about again?

Flamewagon....
this here is a interservice bar fight with nurf beer mugs, some fun pokin, and an occassional true story (like the Tiger Moth). Call it the VA mumbling room. Anyone is welcome, just remember to duck and roll with the punches!

Im kinda happy to see this thread. Its all in good natured fun. I havent "talked" in awhile.
Since i never really mentioned it. Theres two USAF's. Thats right, TWO.
Theres the Flying Air force, and the Non flying Air force. Needless to say, much of what i did, didnt involve planes.
I spent more time with the Army and Navy then i care to admit. At anyrate, heres some pictures of the "other" AF.

Damn pilots, their spoiled i tell you. On some deployments ive seen, others sleep in a GP medium tent, these guys have to have a TEMPER tent with air conditioning. Wussy's!

Scott 672 I was down there in the mid 80's. Never want to return I can tell you, too hot for too long.
I bet your little charade with the pyro had a BM cussing like a sailor. I was a BM before I was a GM so I know the mentality well. I've seen some blow a gasket if a seagull flew to close to the boat. White paint shows all.

Deepblue,
Your claim to 'open the way,' or 'sweep' is invalid.
As specops, rarely did you zoomies do much for us. We infiltrated quietly, got into position without making a racket and did our job and faded into the countryside.
We were also trained to go in and find you zoomies who managed to stray too close to Mr. Sam, and had to leave your pretty airplane and try to move about on the ground.
I have noticed that on the ground, zoomies have no idea what stealth is, that you DO NOT WALK ON TRAILS, and you keep your canteens full.
You see, Deepblue, the badguys have a nasty habit of putting anti-personel items on trails, the noise of a half-filled canteen carries in ANY enviroment, and finally, you watch where you put your feet, no stepping on twigs etc.
And yes, while Dust Off are appreciated, venerated and nearly worshipped when it drops into the pot, I have to say, when those choppers come in, every bad guy with a morter starts dropping them on the LZ, making it very unhealthy.
Now with all that said, you must understand, I was assigned to a unit that used small unit tactics, so we didnt call for airsupport, although we would tell you guys where to find your targets, where the bad guys had SAMs, where there were out of place triple A emplacements.... You know, all those things that pilots DONT like.
Deepblue, remember, the bad guys dont always put thier AA stuff around targets, they also like to put it along the routes into the targets. And if it werent for guys like me finding those nasty little items, guys like you would spend much more time walking.
So, Deepblue, I do believe, sir, that you owe us ground pounders steak dinners, with all the trimmings, AND half your paycheck.

Sorry not a squid here.
This is my bird of prey! It was so much fun working on her, seeing the "signatures" of those that worked on her in the past was very exciting!

@lane2512;
I devotedly hope that your son is able to "finish his chores" without too much difficulty.
We've lost too many of our finest! (....and it breaks my heart to see the headlines every day!)
