On the subject of Brivet General G. A. Custer, he was a pompus ***, a tactical idiot, and the primary orchestrator of no less than three massacres of cheyenne women and children, all of which happened to have been IN the indian territories where they were supposed to be.
In other words, Custer's actions following his posting to Kansas were the direct cause of the uprising of the southern cheyenne, commanche and kiowas, and of course, when the northern cheyenne learned of his actions, they went on the warpath, which brought the Lakota and the other Souix bands in for the party.
You see gentlemen, and zoomies, Custer is directly responsible for every white settler, pioneer crossing the plains, and every trooper that died due to hostilities with the plains indians from 1866 until Little Big Horn.
And by the way, there was no herioc last stand of the 7th. Archeologists have proven that the skirmish line broke and the men were, for the most part killed trying to reach the gullies and creek that runs through the battle field site.
By dividing his force into 3 different troops, he basically guarenteed his own loss and subsequint massacre.
By the way, a part of the story that you wont find in any history book, but if you talk to some of the Lakota who know the oral history, they will tell you why custer was not scalped.
A foolish warrior is not worthy of being scalped.
Oh, and here is an eyewitness account from the 'winning side.'
The soldiers charged the Sioux camp about noon. The soldiers were divided, one party charging right into the camp. After driving these soldiers across the river, the Sioux charged the different soldiers [i.e., Custer's] below, and drive them in confusion; these soldiers became foolish, many throwing away their guns and raising their hands, saying, "Sioux, pity us; take us prisoners." The Sioux did not take a single soldier prisoner, but killed all of them; none were left alive for even a few minutes. These different soldiers discharged their guns but little. I took a gun and two belts off two dead soldiers; out of one belt two cartridges were gone, out of the other five.
The Sioux took the guns and cartridges off the dead soldiers and went to the hill on which the soldiers were, surrounded and fought them with the guns and cartridges of the dead soldiers. Had the soldiers not divided I think they would have killed many Sioux. The different soldiers [i.e., Custer's battalion] that the Sioux killed made five brave stands. Once the Sioux charged right in the midst of the different soldiers and scattered them all, fighting among the soldiers hand to hand.

You know, after the 1.3 patch comes out, it will be just like the last day of high school.
We will all go our seperate ways, find new boats and new torpedos and new patrol areas. The SkyWalker will close. Mama San will get fat and grey.................
STOP THE 1.3 PATCH NOW!
I dont know, I kinda came back to the same house I grew up in, and funny thing is, that a lot of the people I graduated did too.
I dont know what it is about Abilene, there aint nothing here, jobs is scarce, but people that grew up here, couldnt wait to get the hell out of town, are coming back.
A couple of us dont say much about what we did right out of highschool. One of our graduating class was in Beruit when the Marine barracks got blown. I was there as well, but they had my unit pulling security patrols around some red cross refugee camp. (fat lot of good, the rules of engagement at the time did not allow us to carry loaded weapons)
I guess what I am trying to say is that I believe that this thread will keep going, I mean where else can we tell our war stories, take advantage of Deepblue's credit cards, ( he dont know it, but I dont use plastic) and generally act like we were teenagers again...
Now that is a horrible thought, to be a teenager again, getting kicked out of a catholic highschool, getting suspended from regular highschool for putting a hereford calf in the principles office over the weekend....
